Adrian crushed her against him and locked her into a lip-bruising kiss. He made love to her mouth. It was the only chance he’d get, and he was taking it. He wouldn’t let her breathe if he could help it.

I loved this scene. How desperate he is to hold on to her. How she has no clue.

Review: Breathless

Author: Brigid Kemmerer

Format: e-ARCC
Print Length: 65 pages
Publisher: Kensington Teen
Published: April 30, 2013

Too many secrets. Not enough time.

Nick Merrick is supposed to be the level-headed one. The peacemaker. Since it’s just him and his three hotheaded brothers against the world, that’s a survival tactic.

But now he’s got problems even his brothers can’t help him survive.

His so-called girlfriend, Quinn, is going quick as mercury from daring to crazy. Meanwhile, Quinn’s dancer friend Adam is throwing Nick off balance, forcing him to recognize a truth he’d rather shove back into the dark.

He can feel it—-the atmosphere is sizzling. Danger is on the way. But whatever happens next, Nick is starting to find out that sometimes nothing you do can keep the peace.

My Opinion

Breathless is a short look into the head and heart of Nick Merrick. What you find there is heartbreak, confusion and a whole lot of self-doubt. Which is unfortunate as Nick is the most put-together of his brothers. He is the sensible one, the one with dreams.

Kremmerer allows the reader into Nick’s private world. The one what he keeps hidden from everyone, even himself. I am not sure which is worse that he lies to himself or to his twin. I couldn't help but think that Gabriel would understand. There is not a lot of the brothers in this novella, but for some reason that fits. A lot is explained in this one night in the mind of Nick, but it leaves even more questions. Questions that I am not sure even Nick wants to answer right now.

My Rating 3 stars out of the 5 stars

Swoon Thursday (17) Prophecy Girl

My arms moved up his chest and twined around his neck like vines reaching toward the sun, my lips parting for him. For a second, he froze, and I worried that he might pull away. But then his body flexed against mine, his mouth warm and insistent.

Suddenly, the kiss stopped being soft and turned hungry. His hands knotted into my hair, pulling me into him like he could consume me. His heart fluttered madly against my chest. Or maybe it was my heart, I couldn’t tell. All I could sense was his body next to mine, and all I could think was… yes.

Waiting on Wednesday (3) Sweet Peril

Hey y'all, thanks so much for stopping by my WoW!
Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine which spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Anna Whitt, the daughter of a guardian angel and a demon, promised herself she’d never do the work of her father—polluting souls. She’d been naive to make such a vow. She’d been naive about a lot of things.

Haunted by demon whisperers, Anna does whatever she can to survive, even if it means embracing her dark side and earning an unwanted reputation as her school’s party girl. Her life has never looked more bleak. And all the while there’s Kaidan Rowe, son of the Duke of Lust, plaguing her heart and mind.

When an unexpected lost message from the angels surfaces, Anna finds herself traveling the globe with Kopano, son of Wrath, in an attempt to gain support of fellow Nephilim and give them hope for the first time. It soon becomes clear that whatever freedoms Anna and the rest of the Neph are hoping to win will not be gained without a fight. Until then, Anna and Kaidan must put aside the issues between them, overcome the steamiest of temptations yet, and face the ultimate question: is loving someone worth risking their life?

I really liked Kaidan in the last book- Anna grew on me. But honestly, just have to know what happens.

But her journey won’t be complete until she makes one final choice…which guy to love. Should she choose to the werewolf who broke her heart but will give anything to win her back, or the half-fae who ran from their attraction before they had a chance? Everything she’s learned at Shadow Falls has been preparing her for this moment—when her fate will be revealed and her heart claimed forever.

We had been together long enough that I recognized the slight part of his lips, his eyes fluttering closed, and the slight flush of his cheeks just before our lips touched, which I was sure was mirrored on my own.

Then I couldn’t see anything, because I closed my eyes and watched stars burst behind my eyelids. It was like this every time he kissed me. I was sure it would never change.

Review: Chosen at Nightfall

Author: CC Hunter
Format: ARC
Print Length: 400 pages
Publisher: St. Martin's Press
Published: April 23rd 2013

Kylie Galen's life hasn't been the same since her world was turned upside-down in Born at Midnight, Shadow Falls #1, and now an epic conclusion to her journey—not to mention a tough choice between two guys!—is brewing in Chosen at Nightfall:

When Kylie Galen left Shadow Falls, she thought it was the hardest decision of her life. Heartbroken and separated from everyone she loves, she has to embrace her abilities and what it means to be a chameleon. But as Kylie's journey comes to a close, she must return to the camp that started it all...and she must finally chose between the two boys who love her. The werewolf who broke her heart when he chose his pack over her, and the half-fae who ran from their intense attraction before they ever really had a chance. For Kylie, everything will finally be revealed and nothing will ever be the same.

My Opinion

Kylie has left Shadow Falls and those who love her. She has gone off with her grandfather and aunt to learn more about her own kind- the chameleons. She is miserable there, but she has put her big gal pants on and is trying her hardest to learn all that she can. Then someone she adores gets hurts, Burnett thinks there is a connection between the attack and Kylie. So, Kylie returns to Shadow Falls.

There could also be a connection between the attack and her newest ghost. What a ghost this one is. She wants Kylie to kill someone, and wants her to train to do it. Who better to train her than Lucas, the boy that broke her heart. The boy that still loves her and will risk all for that love, literally. Derek is still there and still in love with her as well. He will be there to pick up the pieces of her broken heart. The question becomes which one is the right one. Her mister perfect. In the last book, Lucas screws up royally and he could have lost Kylie completely. Her training will keep her in contact with Lucas when otherwise we all know, she would have nothing to do with him. But this ghost is one that she cannot ignore. One who says someone she loves is in mortal danger.

Kylie is strong in this one- stronger than she has ever been. Stronger than the strongest characters of the series. She really is a protector, and boy does it shine. She ends up dealing with two ghost and the second one shocked the granola out of me. I mean seriously? That person died? And came to Kylie? For help? Man~ shocked eyes-wide-open shocked!

Surprisingly, Lucas and Derek are strong in this one as well. Lucas comes into his own, realizing his true quest and figuring out how to get the end result. Derek always a great support character comes to understand both his feelings for Kylie and the feelings that she harbors for him. Holiday, Burnett, Miranda and Fredericka are all hilarious in this addition as well. Great support staff.

Chosen at Nightfall is an amazing ending to a wonderful series. Usually at the ending of a series, I am mad about something. I was tickled pink when this series ended and I was happy. It was perfect~ I have no complaints. All questions were answered. Granted CC being the smart writer that she is did leave some questions opened concerning Della. OMG! What a story that is going to be.

My Rating 5 stars out of 5 stars

Favorite Quote “Because hearts are ornery, sneaky little bastards, designed to cause misery. They want what they want, and they don’t give a damn about what would make life easier or harder for the heart’s owner.”

Other People

Holiday- Director of Shadow Falls, Kylie’s mentor-almost an older sister role.
Miranda- Kylie’s roommate, a dyslexic witch- has a sweet nature about her.
Della- Kylie’s roommate, a newly formed vampire- tough exterior, but loyal.
Burnett- FRU (Fallen Research Unit) agent, engaged to Holiday

Review: Morality

Author: Kellie Sheridan
Format: e-ARC
Print Length: 271 pages
Publisher: Snarky Books
Published: March 19, 2013

After surviving a deadly plague outbreak, sixteen-year-old Savannah thought she had lived through the very worst of human history. There was no way to know that the miracle vaccine would put everyone at risk for a fate worse than un-death.

Now, two very different kinds of infected walk the Earth, intent on nothing but feeding and destroying what little remains of civilization. When the inoculated are bitten, infection means watching on in silent horror as self-control disappears and the idea of feasting on loved ones becomes increasingly hard to ignore.

Starving and forced to live inside of the abandoned high school, all Savannah wants is the chance to fight back. When a strange boy arrives with a plan to set everything right, she gets her chance. Meeting Cole changes everything. Mere survival will never be enough.

My Opinion

Zombies are the new vampires, sort of like black is the new pink. A team of scientists accidentily creates the zombie strand and sets it loose on the world. Morality is what happens after the virus is released.

There are two female leads in this book~ Savannah and Zarah. There are flipping points of view from opposite sides of the world and time. This confused me in the beginning and took me a while to get used to. Zarah stories starts 2 days after the outbreak and Savannah starts six months after the outbreak.

Savannah is an act now question later kinda gal. This can get someone in trouble when it is the end of the world. She does own up to her mistakes though and tries to set them right. For this alone~ you have to love her. Savannah will protect those she loves, regardless of the consequences to herself.

Zarah was well to be honest, a weak character. It’s the end of the world and she hides out instead of fighting back. This was a little too weird for me. Her point of view is valuable for the story and it is interesting to note how the world is handling the ending coming.

The two guy love interests were not really that interesting to me. Cole was okay- but I kept feeling like he would ditch Savannah if something new came along. No clue why I felt this way, just did. Liam was well Liam- always there to help Zarah and tries to protect her. I couldn’t help but feel like if this was not the end of the world then these two would not have stuck it out with the heroines.

Morality is a nice start to a series with great potential. I am looking forward to the next in the series to see where Kellie takes Savannah, Cole and gang. The dual points of view were a bit of a turn-off for me. I really could have used a little bit more couple time as well. I did love how the story twisted the current zombie trends. Especially after what happens to one of the heroines.

My Rating 3 out of 5 stars

Favorite Quote "It felt like our entire relationship happened around two day intervals that always seems like a good idea t the time but never quite worked out as planned."

Other People

Alex- one of Savannah’s best friends
Pierce- friend of Savannah
Zack- another one of Savannah’s best friends, he gets captured

He brought one of his hands around to the small of my back and pulled me in until I was pressed right up against his chest. His other hand slid up my back until it settled on my neck, his fingers intertwined with my hair.

I leaned in and pressed my lips against his. At first we were both tentative and gentle, but we quickly realized into the kiss as though we’d done this a thousand times before.

I shiver ran down my spine as he tilted his head away from mine. I intertwined my fingers with his, not willing to let him go quite yet. Not yet.

Dream Cast: Morality

I cannot start to tell you how much fun I had coming up with a dream cast for Mortality. I gave the whole thing way too much thought, but I’m happy with the result.

Of course, the characters all look fairly different in my head, but since I couldn’t actually will those people into existence I decided to focus more on their vibe than their appearance, and I ended up with a solid balance between the two. I even managed to find a group that I think could believably pass as teenagers, since as much as I would love to cast Adam Levine in every male role ever, it just wouldn’t work for this story ;-)

Savannah
Vanessa Marano first popped onto my radar in Gilmore Girls and is now starring in Switched at Birth. I think she would make a fantastic Savannah as she’s able to both hard and soft at the same time, and I think she would DEFINITELY be able to kick some zombie butt during the apocalypse.

Cole
For Cole, I’m going with Graham Wardle. I fell in looovvveee with him watching him on Heartland (Canadian show about horses) and his shaggy hair and crooked grin would make for a great Cole.

Zarah
I’ve known for a long time I would eventually be doing a post like this one, and I always thought Zarah would be the most difficult since I don’t even know where to start in looking for East-Indian acresses. Then Tiya Sircar had a small role in Emily Owens M.D. and I knew instantly this was the right girl to play Zarah.

Liam
You’d think it would be easy to come up with a blonde, lean, teenaged male actor. I could not figure this one out! I ended up going with Jamie Johnston on a recommendation, but I do think he fits the look. Hopefully he can actually act!

Alex
Originally, I went with Harry Shum Jr. for Alex, but I couldn’t find any pictures of him looking suitably serious. I ended up going for Alex Wong, who I know from So You Think You Can Dance. His dance background would give him a leg-up in combat training, and I think he’d do a great job of capturing Alex’s conflicted nature. Bonus points because the character and actor will have the same name.

Pierce
This one was hard! Eventually I had to admit that I probably wasn’t going to find a half-black actor who also happened to be British, so I branched out a little. Jacob Artist is currently on Glee playing a bit of a badass, but I think he could pull off Pierce, no problem.

Zack
I saw Graham Rogers on Revolution and I think he would make a fantastic Zack. Just look at him, this guy would totally take one for the team and would make for a great moral compass.

Belle
Jessica Amlee was someone else I was introduced to by watching Heartland. Jessica Amlee perfectly captures Belle’s youth and her bubbly personality.
