Review: A Boy With the Hidden Name

Author Skylar Dorset
Format eARC
Print Length 320 pages
Publisher Sourcebooks Fire
Published Dec. 2, 2014

This is not your average trip to Fairyland...

Selkie Stewart has just saved her quasi-boyfriend, Ben, from a fairy prison run by the Seelie Court. If they weren't the two most-wanted individuals in the Otherworld before, they definitely are now. Along with Ben and the rest of their ragtag group of allies-Selkie's ogre aunts; a wizard named Will; Ben's cousin Safford; and Kelsey, Selkie's best friend-Selkie is ready to embrace her destiny and bring the Court down. Until she hears the rest of her prophecy: Benedict le Fay will betray you, and then he will die.

My Opinion

After the events of The Girl Who Never Was, Selkie just wants to have a normal life. Well as normal a life as one can get being a princes half-breed of the Seelie Court. She wants to spend time with Ben and Kelsey. Except she can’t- Ben is hardly around- a fact that Selkie is going to complain about A LOT. Oh I may have forgotten the Seelie Court is still after her. The protections around Boston are beginning to fail and its looks like Selkie and her group of misfits are the only ones who can save it. With the Seelie Court after her, Selkie must go to the Goblin Court to seek guidance and assistance. At the same time, she must find the other three fays that will help her save Parsymeon and the Other World.

Selkie for the most part complains throughout the whole book. I mean Boston her home is come apart right before her eyes thanks to a magical Civil War and she is still complaining about Ben not spending time with her. What the what? Everyone is being supportive and following her to Parsymeon and she still complains. Ben for his part is trying to protect Selkie from the prophecy. With him being absent a lot there is very little romance going on. Oh they still have feelings for each other, just not a lot of time together. Plus, when they are together Selkie kinda acts bratty.

While this novel has a lot of action, the world building and sub-plots really do take something away from the story. I found myself caring
less and less about Selkie. There honestly was just too much going on- sort of like trying to eat a taco with too much filling. Some of the plot gets lost in the grand scheme of things.

My Rating 3 stars out of 5

Book Trailers (10) The Naturals

Some people believe you can fall in love at first sight. When it comes to books I believe those people. Book trailers are an excellent way to fall in love at first sight. I hope to feature a book trailer here every Saturday to help you fall in love at first sight...

Seventeen-year-old Cassie is a natural at reading people. Piecing together the tiniest details, she can tell you who you are and what you want. But it’s not a skill that she’s ever taken seriously. That is, until the FBI come knocking: they’ve begun a classified program that uses exceptional teenagers to crack infamous cold cases, and they need Cassie.

What Cassie doesn’t realize is that there’s more at risk than a few unsolved homicides—especially when she’s sent to live with a group of teens whose gifts are as unusual as her own. Sarcastic, privileged Michael has a knack for reading emotions, which he uses to get inside Cassie’s head—and under her skin. Brooding Dean shares Cassie’s gift for profiling, but keeps her at arm’s length.

Soon, it becomes clear that no one in the Naturals program is what they seem. And when a new killer strikes, danger looms closer than Cassie could ever have imagined. Caught in a lethal game of cat and mouse with a killer, the Naturals are going to have to use all of their gifts just to survive.

Review: The List

Author Kate L. Mary
Format e-ARC
Print Length ?
Publisher Lyrical Press
Published May 26, 2015

The List. Twenty things every girl must do before she turns twenty. . .

Body piercing
Get drunk
First kiss

But thanks to her crazy, over-protective father, Annie Roth is way behind schedule. Good thing it’s her first semester of college, because Annie is more than ready to start checking off items. . .

Fake ID
Skinny dipping
Road trip!!!

Where it gets complicated? Ryan and Chris. Best friends. Both sweet, funny, totally hot, and totally into Annie.

But there are some things on The List that Annie only wants to do with Ryan. . .

Lose it
Get Heart Broken
Fall in love

My Opinion

Annie is a girl that due to a horrific event grew-up very sheltered. She also grew-up very protected by her daddy and four older brothers. Since she was the only girl in a house full of mean she pretty much was a tomboy by default. She wonders if that is who she really is or if there is more to her. The List is suppose to help her discover the truth about herself.

While The List is entertaining, I did not feel a connection with Annie. I couldn’t sympathize with her instead I was angry with her pretty much throughout the whole book. She meets her roomie and instantly they are besties? Umm…okay. Then she starts dating one guy while incredibly lusting over his best friend. She drinks for liquid courage.. maybe her daddy was right to protect her. She keeps making a lot of wrong decisions just because she can. There is a love triangle- love triangles do not make me happy.

Chris, oh the reason I kept reading. Chris is the sweet understanding guy that Annie is dating. He is clueless to fact that his best friend and Annie have an insta-lust attraction to each other. He tries to be understanding , giving Annie her space. Protecting her even when she gets pissed about it- I feel bad for him.

Throughout the book, I kept thinking Annie needs to grow-up. She whines a lot, internally which I get I do but dang is it overwhelming. Her treatment of her family also annoyed me- I wanted to yell at her. “Good Lord child call your daddy” a good amount of the time, while I was reading.

The List is an entertaining read about one girls road to self-discovery. The mistakes she makes and the consequences that come with them. Do I recommend the book- yes. That is largely due in part to the secondary characters in the book. The next book in the series is about Cami and Liam and that is one book I can get excited about.

My Rating 3 stars out of 5

"You are much more than a friend." bending, he covered her mouth with his own. Hot blood sang through Leah's veins. She stretched up onto her tiptoes and kissed him back.

This first swoon is with Gideon and Leah. They make such a cute couple together...if only his secret wouldn't keep them apart.

He framed her face with his hands and kissed her possessively. When he lifted his lips, his eyes were stormy seas.

"I'm taking the screen test, that's all. I'll be back in two days. We are not breaking up."

"But-"

Another deliciously hard kiss. "Repeat after me: we're not breaking up."

This second teaser is with Ryan and Holly. Boy, does he know how to read her. Hopefully the big bad evil in the book won't get in the way of their love.

Review: A Cursed Bloodline

Author Cecy Robson
Format e-ARC
Print Length 371 pages
Publisher Loveswept
Published Nov. 18, 2014

Just when Celia thinks the supernatural world can’t turn deadlier, a new rival emerges, proving just how dangerous a power-hungry were can be.

Since being cursed with unique abilities, Celia Wird and her three sisters have fought the most bloodthirsty preternaturals in the Lake Tahoe region. But Celia’s greatest threat is someone she would have never suspected: Anara, a werewolf Elder who has allowed his hatred for Celia to spiral out of control. In a play for dominance, Anara tortures Celia and gives her an ultimatum: sever her mate bond with pureblood were Aric — or Anara will kill everyone she loves.

From the instant they met, Celia and Aric have shared an attraction that cannot be tamed. So keeping Aric away is impossible, and Aric would sooner die than allow anyone to hurt the woman he loves. Misha, master vampire and Celia’s sworn protector, also finds his way into the chaos, seeking blood from those who have harmed her.

Now Celia and her sisters are caught in the middle of a war driven by lust, fueled by hatred, and destined to end in tragedy. For Anara is a force to be reckoned with, and he will not succumb without robbing Celia of those who hold her heart.

My Opinion

Aric and Celia have made their pairing public. Aric has even claimed Celia as his mate. Yet not everyone is happy about this especially not Anara- one of the Elder werewolves. He threatens Celia to do the unthinkable- sever her mates link. Even though this could kill both her and Aric. If she doesn’t everyone she loves dies. At first Celia fights Anara but his power over Aric’s clan and even Aric himself is too strong, too much for Celia to bear. She takes refugee with Misha, a vampire sworn to protect her.

A Cursed Bloodline brings all the feels. You will laugh, get mad and of course cry. Holy cryfeast! Do not read this tale without a box of tissues with you. The emotional beat down that you will ender will of course require them.

The best thing about this series is the subplots. Yes, we find out how Celia and Aric will handle what comes their way but man does the secondary characters shine. Liam and Emma, Taran and Gemini even Misha takes center stage as the pages turn. Boy do the pages turn. You will not be able to put this one down.

Celia and Aric have already faced a lot- vampires, witches, demons oh my. The betrayal of one of Aric’s own is well too much to bare. Celia grows throughout the series. This is the book that causes her to grow the most. She has none to turn to or depend on because the attacks are coming from everywhere. No one will believe her as no one knows what is going on. How can they, when she doesn’t believe it herself?

Mrs. Robson is a master at making you feel happiness and then crushing to the ground. She cons you into routing for the couple and then breaks your heart along with the characters. A Cursed Bloodline is a must read!

Review: Wolf With Benefits

Author Shelly Laurenston
Format e-ARC
Print Length 421 pages
Publisher Brava
Published May 26, 2015

Ricky Lee has no plans of getting serious about anyone, but he will protect Toni Jean-Louis Parker. Not just because he’s been hired to do so, but because it’s the right thing to do. And if that means traveling around the country with one complicated She-jackal, dealing with chocolate-eating wild dogs, instigating trouble between his brothers, and having the most amazing sex he’s ever had…well, who said his job didn’t have perks?

Toni doesn’t know how she keeps getting herself into these situations. But even she has to admit there’s something about Ricky Lee Reed that she finds kind of interesting…and downright sexy. Now they just have to survive long enough to figure out if what they have is worth fighting for…

My Opinion

Toni has a severe case of eldest child syndrome. She must protect her siblings from all harm- especially from themselves. Toni recognizes that it is her responsibility since she is the normal one. Normal one as in average- average looks, average grace, average brains just average. Being average isn’t bad but when you are average in a group of people who are above average well… you know it and it can be daunting. So daunting in fact that she is encouraged by her aunt to go out and get a job.

She does just that- not just any job but one with Ric Van Holtz company- as a director of team travel and promotions. Her very first job and she is making six figures! Instead of jumping up and down for joy her siblings are trying to guilt her into quitting. She understands their need and just has to finish a task first- going to Russia to insure a hockey game.

Who does her boss send with her for protection- one Ricky Lee, a wolf shifter with the patience of Job. Ricky Lee keeps running into Toni at the beginning of the book- each time of her siblings looks over at him and asks “Are you my daddy?” This is their way of keeping guys away from Toni. Ricky Lee instead is just amused. Yepper, a male with a sense of humor. Ricky Lee is attracted to Toni, but thinks nothing of it. Until that is while in Russia her family is in danger. Ricky Lee’s security company steps in and hands the situation so that the Russian deal can go through.

Toni is an interesting a gal- having to run interference for her siblings has been some serious on the job training. She isn’t one to complain about the work but instead just does it. She is confused about Ricky Lee’s attraction to her which comes off as adorable. Ricky Lee is interesting in that he denies feelings for Toni yet helps her time and time again. He does have a stalkerish ex-girlfriend but Toni’s bestie will handle that.

The family aspect of A Wolf With Benefits is entertaining. The love between the siblings is evident even as they try to sabotage Toni’s career. Toni grows a lot during the book in areas that she didn’t even know she need to grow in.

A Wolf With Benefits is an entertaining tale. If you have the time, you should check it out.

My Rating 3 stars out of 5

I laughed unexpectedly. “Why would you say a thing like that about a woman like me?” I’d never once had a man say I was too good for him, and that made my heart clench.

He touched the curls on my head, feeling the silky strands between his fingers. B you’re like those shiny ornaments on the Christmas tree. Too pretty. Too perfect. Something I’m not allowed to touch.”

Review: Red Blooded

Author Amanda Carlson
Format e-ARC
Print Length 320 pages
Publisher Orbit
Published September 9, 2014

Jessica is going to Hell.

After settling a fragile truce between the vampires, werewolves and witches, the last thing Jessica wants to do is face the demons head on. But when the Prince of Hell kidnapped her brother, he set into motion a chain of events that even Jessica doesn't have the power to stop.

Now, Jessica must go into battle again. But Hell is a whole new beast—new rules, more dangerous demons, and an entirely foreign realm. And when Jessica is dropped into the Underworld too soon, without protection or the help of her friends, she must figure out just how powerful she can be... or she will never make it out alive.

My Opinion

Cold Blooded ended with Jessica’s twin brother Tyler is taken. Red Blooded begins with her launching a rescue mission to find him. After all it is her brother. The spell to drop her team and her into the Underworld goes wrong and Jessica is left by herself to find Tyler, rescue him and return back to earth. Not too hard for a gal who has already faced down evil witches and vampires. But the Underworld doesn’t play by her rules and she is going to need a guide, who comes in the form a demon gal named Lili. Not sure if this is intentional or not but thoughts of Supernatural do accidently pop in my head.

To be honest this was my least favorite book in the series. Rourke is only in about a third of it which means romance is going to be lacking as he is her mate. Jessica spends a lot of time in the Underworld alone, trying to find her brother and a way out. This also means that character development will not be pretty high in this novel. While the Underworld is fully developed one cannot help but wonder why Carlson was spending so much time designing it. Will Jessica be returning at a later date?

Jessica and Rourke are as adorable as ever when they are together. Rourke always willing to support and defend her. Jessica for the most part has grown a lot over the series, which means her decision making skills are better.

My Rating 3 stars out of 5

Book Trailer Saturday (8) The Young Elites

Some people believe you can fall in love at first sight. When it comes to books I believe those people. Book trailers are an excellent way to fall in love at first sight. I hope to feature a book trailer here every Saturday to help you fall in love at first sight...

I am tired of being used, hurt, and cast aside.

Adelina Amouteru is a survivor of the blood fever. A decade ago, the deadly illness swept through her nation. Most of the infected perished, while many of the children who survived were left with strange markings. Adelina’s black hair turned silver, her lashes went pale, and now she has only a jagged scar where her left eye once was. Her cruel father believes she is a malfetto, an abomination, ruining their family’s good name and standing in the way of their fortune. But some of the fever’s survivors are rumored to possess more than just scars—they are believed to have mysterious and powerful gifts, and though their identities remain secret, they have come to be called the Young Elites.

Teren Santoro works for the king. As Leader of the Inquisition Axis, it is his job to seek out the Young Elites, to destroy them before they destroy the nation. He believes the Young Elites to be dangerous and vengeful, but it’s Teren who may possess the darkest secret of all.

Enzo Valenciano is a member of the Dagger Society. This secret sect of Young Elites seeks out others like them before the Inquisition Axis can. But when the Daggers find Adelina, they discover someone with powers like they’ve never seen.

Adelina wants to believe Enzo is on her side, and that Teren is the true enemy. But the lives of these three will collide in unexpected ways, as each fights a very different and personal battle. But of one thing they are all certain: Adelina has abilities that shouldn’t belong in this world. A vengeful blackness in her heart. And a desire to destroy all who dare to cross her.

It is my turn to use. My turn to hurt.

Review: A Darker Past

Author Jus Accardo
Format E-ARC
Print Length
Publisher Entangled Teen
Published Nov. 11, 2014

The past is Darker than they thought...

Between helping her mother with the Darker Agency and laying the smack down on monster baddies, Jessie Darker puts the “normal” in paranormal. But lately, things have gotten a little crazy...even for a smart-assed half-demon teenage girl.

For starters, Jessie’s been contracted into fifty-five years of annoying servitude. To a demon. Then there’s Lukas Scott, her sexy new boyfriend. Once the former incarnation of Wrath, he’s been going through some...uh, changes. Like residual anger. And trading chaste hangouts for lusty make-out sessions.

But it’s when Lukas and Jessie accidentally release a Very Nasty Demon that things get really bad, setting into motion a chain of death and mayhem that threatens both Earth and the Shadow Realm. Jessie has exactly four days to fix it...before all of Hell breaks loose.

My Opinion

Spoiler alarm spoiler alarm…. If you did not read Darker Days do not read this review as it will ruin it for you.

A Darker Past starts off a few weeks after Darker Days ends. Jessie’s daddy is spening more time on our realm and Jessie is spending more time on his. I mean after all she is bound to the demon, Valefar for the next fifty years. Daddy dearest has decided that Jessie needs a bodyguard, who happens to come in the form of her boyfriend Lukas. This is great until Lukas old crush decides to crash the party and a baddie demon is released. This demon is wreaking havoc across their town, and it seems like the witches of the town are not safe. This is not good, not good at all as Jessie’s bestie is a witch. So…. what is Jessie and Lukas to do but confront and defeat it.

Jessie is as spunky as ever in this tale. She has faced demons and lived, she has bonded herself to one and lived. There is nothing that she cannot do, especially if she has the faith of her momma and her bestie Kendra. There are moments when self-doubt arises but she just faces it head on and then starts to kick some demon behind.

Lukas is an added bonus. He is still dealing with the after effects of being attached to Wrath for so long but he has is almost always in control of himself around Jessie. He worries about her and is extremely protective of her. He is having issues with all the changes in the world especially the courting changes. Don’t worry our gal Jessie will help him out in that area.

Speaking of protective, Valefar, surprises me in this one. He is the demon that holds Jessie’s contract, so we are supposed to hate him but to be honest we cannot because he is so well just wait your will see. He has a hidden agenda but he seriously protects Jessie’s behind the scenes. He works around the confines of the rules of his realm and guides Jessie through them. She just doesn’t know that she is being guided.

I absolutely loved loved loved this book. Jessie, Lukas and Kendra are my new besties. There was not a moment were I wanted to put it down. Fast-paced, fun-loving novel that seriously leaves you wanting more.

My Rating 4 stars out of 5

Waiting on Wednesday (18) The Leveller

Hey y'all, thanks so much for stopping by my WoW!

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine which spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Nixy Bauer is a self-made Leveller. Her job? Dragging kids out of virtual reality and back to their parents in the real world. It’s normally easy cash, but Nixy’s latest mission is fraught with real danger, intrigue, and romance.

Nixy Bauer is used to her classmates being very, very unhappy to see her. After all, she’s a bounty hunter in a virtual reality gaming world. Kids in the MEEP, as they call it, play entirely with their minds, while their bodies languish in a sleeplike state on the couch. Irritated parents, looking to wrench their kids back to reality, hire Nixy to jump into the game and retrieve them.

But when the game’s billionaire developer loses track of his own son in the MEEP, Nixy is in for the biggest challenge of her bounty-hunting career. Wyn Salvador isn’t some lazy kid looking to escape his homework: Wyn does not want to be found. And he’s left behind a suicid
e note. Nixy takes the job but quickly discovers that Wyn’s not hiding—he’s being held inside the game against his will. But who is holding him captive, and why?

Nixy and Wyn attempt to fight their way out of a mind game unlike any they’ve encountered, and the battle brings them closer than either could have imagined. But when the whole world is virtual, how can Nixy possibly know if her feelings are real?

Gamers and action fans of all types will dive straight into the MEEP, thanks to Julia Durango’s cinematic storytelling. A touch of romance adds some heart to Nixy’s vivid, multidimensional journey through Wyn’s tricked-out virtual city, and constant twists keep readers flying through to the breathtaking end.

Why am I waiting?

This is one that I am really excited about. You see I use to be a closet gamer (shhh… don’t tell) then I had kids and it was gaming or reading. I picked reading and left my gaming days behind. Never once regretting my decision, but if I can mix up my reading with a little gaming lingo. Woowhoo! Sign me up!

“What are you doing here?”

Jaxon wore a serious expression. “I stopped by to talk to my future wife about names for our offspring. Sadly, your name didn’t make the list.”

Zavien’s gaze darted back and forth between Jaxon and Bryn. “Tell me he’s joking.”

Bridges Burned Kindle Location 172

Can you imagine your boyfriend finding you in the same room with some hot guy that he hates? I love Jaxon’s respond to Zavien’s jealous nature. I loved loved loved Zavien in the first book and hated Jaxon. Now, I love love love Jaxon and hate Zavien. I am honestly beginning to think that Bryn needs to give up on dragons and go for a nice human.

Review: Curtsies & Conspiracies

Author Gail Carriger
Format E-ARC
Print Length 310 pages
Publisher Hachette Little, Brown & Co
Published November 2013

Does one need four fully grown foxgloves for decorating a dinner table for six guests? Or is it six foxgloves to kill four fully grown guests?

Sophronia's first year at Mademoiselle Geraldine's Finishing Academy for Young Ladies of Quality has certainly been rousing! For one thing, finishing school is training her to be a spy--won't Mumsy be surprised? Furthermore, Sophronia got mixed up in an intrigue over a stolen device and had a cheese pie thrown at her in a most horrid display of poor manners.

Now, as she sneaks around the dirigible school, eavesdropping on the teachers' quarters and making clandestine climbs to the ship's boiler room, she learns that there may be more to a field trip to London than is apparent at first. A conspiracy is afoot--one with dire implications for both supernaturals and humans. Sophronia must rely on her training to discover who is behind the dangerous plot-and survive the London Season with a full dance card.

In this sequel to New York Times bestselling Etiquette & Espionage, class is back in session with more petticoats and poison, tea trays and treason. Gail's distinctive voice, signature humor, and lush steampunk setting are sure to be the height of fashion this season.

My Opinion

I am usually not a reader of steampunk but there is something about this serious that captures me hook, line and sinker. Curtsies & Conspiracies picks up right where Etiquette & Espionage left off and boy was it an entertaining read.

There was a test given to all of the girls at the school and Sophronia scored the highest on all but one section. This has put her at odds with the other girls in the school. I dare say even her best friend, Dimity is having a hard time with her beating out everyone. This is quite vexing as it the girls’ standoffish attitude last quite a while. Monique’s parents are throwing a ball and the girls are all trying to secure an invitation, making her even more unbearable than before. Sophronia is suspicious about the reason for the entire school to fly to London, is it really for the hot air balloon experiment or is it for another reason all together. How will she find out the answer to her growing suspension when everyone else is thinking about the Season.

Sophronia has come a long way from the inquisitive gal she was in Etiquette & Espionage. Her training has encouraged her to go her own way- even if that way is a tad bit dangerous. She does however think things through before jumping right in to save the day. This is a good thing as she is going to be needed to save the day- there is an attempted kidnapping of a loved one in this story that she has to prevent. Will she be able to save the day? Or will her friend be lost forever? Not only that but is there a conspiracy to kill the resident vampire?

I wish Sophronia was not so clueless when it came to members of the opposite gender. For all her cleverness you would have thought that she would have observed enough interaction of couples that she would know when she was being courted (Lord Mersey) or when someone unacceptable was falling for her (Soap). This of course is setting up a lovely love triangle, to be played out in the next book.

Overall, Curtsies & Conspiracies is a charming tale that at times was frustrating. An entertaining read that is a welcome distraction from reality.

My Rating 4 stars out of 5

Book Trailer Saturday (7) A Breath of Frost

Some people believe you can fall in love at first sight. When it comes to books I believe those people. Book trailers are an excellent way to fall in love at first sight. I hope to feature a book trailer here every Saturday to help you fall in love at first sight...

In 1814, three cousins—Gretchen, Emma, and Penelope—discover their family lineage of witchcraft when a binding spell is broken, allowing their individual magical powers to manifest. Now, beyond the manicured gardens and ballrooms of Regency London, an alluring underworld available only to those with power is revealed to the cousins. By claiming their power, the three cousins have accidentally opened the gates to the underworld.

Now ghouls, hellhounds—and most terrifying of all, the spirits of dark witches known as the Greymalkin Sisters—are hunting and killing young debutante witches for their powers. And, somehow, Emma is connected to the murders…because she keeps finding the bodies.

Can the cousins seal the gates before another witch is killed…or even worse, before their new gifts are stripped away?

Review: Seriously Wicked

Author Tina Connolly
Format e-ARC
Print Length 208 pages
Publisher Tor Teen
Published May 5, 2015

The only thing worse than being a witch is living with one.

Camellia’s adopted mother wants Cam to grow up to be just like her. Problem is, Mom’s a seriously wicked witch.

Cam’s used to stopping the witch’s crazy schemes for world domination. But when the witch summons a demon, he gets loose—and into Devon, the cute new boy at school.

Now Cam’s suddenly got bigger problems than passing Algebra. Her friends are getting zombiefied. Their dragon is tired of hiding in the RV garage. For being a shy boy-band boy, Devon is sure kissing a bunch of girls. And a phoenix hidden in the school is going to explode on the night of the Halloween Dance.

To stop the demon before he destroys Devon’s soul, Cam might have to try a spell of her own. But if she’s willing to work spells like the witch...will that mean she’s wicked too?

My Opinion

Cam’s momma is on a mission to find the hidden phoenix and prevent the city from burning down. Every hundred years the phoenix burns and with it everything for miles. Sure this will also allow her to take over the city but hey you can’t help but give kudos to her for trying. In order to save the city, she summons a demon. One that gets lose and lands itself in Devon’s body. Devon is a new boy at school that Cam has a crush on.

Cam’s momma keeps trying to teach her magic yet she resists. This is due to being traumatized as a child when she stumbled upon her momma casting a spell. Ever since Cam has thought she was being held captive by an evil witch that tricked her parents. She stays to protect the dragon and werewolf that the witch has caged. Cam is a bit of a wow is me kinda character. Devon the one who is possessed tends to go with the follow, which is a bit on the strange side. I mean he doesn’t freak out at all, instead is like yeah I’m possessed.

I was so excited about this book, finally a new witch’s tale. One that includes demons… sign me up. Maybe my expectations for Seriously Wicked were too high. I found the story lackluster, I kept reading it because I honestly wanted it to pick up and capture me. It never did. I had issues with a few things within the story. Witchipedia? Seriously this is where she gets most of her information from? A mean girl who is named Sparkle? Umm… come on.

“Why would Katerina suddenly be targeting just humans? Global supernaturals have established that humans are best controlled, not destroyed.” I mused. “All of the studies have proven this to be true. Katerina would have to be a moron to want to destroy the human population. In spite of her psycho tendencies, she’s far from stupid.”

Man Cordelia, Jagger, and Faustine have had a time of it. Things don’t seem to be slowing down for them either, not with Katerina as the evil mastermind.

Review: Dragons Are People, Too

Author Sarah Nicolas
Format e-ARC
Print Length 255 pages
Publisher Entangled
Published April 28, 2015

Never judge a dragon
by her human cover...

Sixteen-year-old Kitty Lung has everyone convinced she’s a normal teen—not a secret government operative, not the one charged with protecting the president’s son, and certainly not a were-dragon. The only one she trusts with the truth is her best friend—and secret crush—the über-hot Bulisani Mathe.

Then a junior operative breaks Rule Number One by changing into his dragon form in public—on Kitty’s watch—and suddenly, the world knows. About dragons. About the Draconic Intelligence Command (DIC) Kitty works for. About Kitty herself.

Now the government is hunting down and incarcerating dragons to stop a public panic, and a new shape-shifting enemy has kidnapped the president’s son. Kitty and Bulisani are the last free dragons, wanted by both their allies and their enemies. If they can’t rescue the president’s son and liberate their fellow dragons before getting caught themselves, dragons might never live free again.

My Opinion

Kitty was raised with a secret- a pretty big secret. You see instead of the gossiping loving care-free sixteen year old girl that she shows the public, she is something different. She is part of a secret government agency the DIC and she has been assigned to protect the president’s son, Jacob. Jacob doesn’t know her secret, I mean come on she is a sixteen year old girl. Do you really think a girl could protect the president’s son? Hmm… no? Well, what if that girl was not just a trained government agent but also a dragon?

Jacob is kidnapped on the same day that the public finds out about dragons and panic ensues. The president has to promise the public that he will protect them from the dragons. To do this, he rounds up all of the dragons that he can find. Most of them already government agents. Kitty now not only has to save Jacob but also her parents, friends and co-workers. This is a lot of stress on a gal. At least her crush Sani is with her, and yes there is a bit of romance.

Kitty has the type of personality that people flock to.  She is easy-going, fun loving on the outside. She plays her cards close to the vest and rarely do people know much about her.  Partly because of how she is raised and partly because of what she is.  Her romantic relationship with Sani has been a long time coming, although others couldn't see it.  Sani is a different kinda love interest.  He is not an alpha male- but instead the sweet understanding beta.  He gives Kitty the room she needs to make the decisions that she has to make.  While he does speak his mind he trust in her leadership.

Dragons Are People, Too is a different kind of paranormal tale. Vampires are so last week and werewolves…over it. Dragons are the newest and hottest things around. Or they will be, especially if they breathe fire. Will Kitty save Jacob and the other dragons? Will Sani and Kitty kiss? These are all questions that are answered in the book. Looking for something different? Go on and one-click away. I promise you won’t regret it.

My Rating 4 out of 5 stars

Review: Cold Burn of Magic

Author Jennifer Estep
Format e-ARC
Print Length 368 pages
Publisher K-Teen
Published April 28, 2015

There Be Monsters Here. . .

It's not as great as you'd think, living in a tourist town that's known as "the most magical place in America." Same boring high school, just twice as many monsters under the bridges and rival Families killing each other for power.

I try to keep out of it. I've got my mom's bloodiron sword and my slightly illegal home in the basement of the municipal library. And a couple of Talents I try to keep quiet, including very light fingers and a way with a lock pick.

But then some nasty characters bring their Family feud into my friend's pawn shop, and I have to make a call--get involved, or watch a cute guy die because I didn't. I guess I made the wrong choice, because now I'm stuck putting everything on the line for Devon Sinclair. My mom was murdered because of the Families, and it looks like I'm going to end up just like her. . .

My Opinion

Cold Burn of Magic is a fascinating tale about a girl who finds herself caught between her own desires and her destiny. I have been in a reading rut for a while now. Nothing has really appealed to me. I read the book and think oh that’s okay but nothing to write home about. Then one day Cold Burn of Magic showed up on my Kindle. Almost as if Lila herself was urging me to open it and see what was inside. From the first sentence “Bad things always come in threes.” I was hooked. Before I knew it the first sentence turned into the first paragraph, then the first chapter and ultimately the ending of the book in one seating. Cold Burn of Magic was what I need to turn my reading rut around.

Lila is an orphan with a special Talent. She keeps this part of her secret as Talents can sometimes cause you trouble, even get you killed. One day she intervenes on an assassination attempt and from then on her life as she knows it is over. Swept away by a power Family, hired unwillingly as a bodyguard for Devon Sinclair. Lila is not the only one with secrets- secrets people would kill for. If the feud doesn’t kill her, the family politics just might.

Lila is a strong minded heroine who can resist a cute guy. Devon is a quite minded male who wants to show the world what he can do. Together they would make a cute couple- they have the chemistry. They are attracted to each other. But with all that is going on with someone putting a hit out on Devon romance it the last thing on either of their minds. Sure, it may creep up when there is a peaceful moment. This book is so action packed that peaceful moments are few and far in between.

A remarkable start to an interesting series, Jennifer Estep does not disappoint. Cold Burn of Magic will seriously take hours of your life away without you realizing it. It does however leave you satisfied that those hours were well spent.

My Rating 5 stars out of 5
