Review: Spellbinder

When magic, romance and family secrets collide, the result is spellbinding!

Miranda Kane has always felt like a screw up–at least when it comes to her ability to wield magic. Her only sanctuary is Shadow Falls camp, where she’s learning to harness her powers as a witch. But thanks to her shapeshifter boyfriend who called it quits and ran off to Paris, both her heart and powers feel broken.

When she unexpectedly lands a top spot in a spell casting competition in France, she flies out with her best friends Kylie and Della. But her trip takes her straight into the heart of a dangerous supernatural mystery–and a heated romance. What Miranda doesn’t expect is for her investigation to unleash shocking revelations…about herself, her family, and her arch enemy. Now Miranda must step up and show everyone that she’s a witch to be reckoned with….before it’s too late.

My Opinion

Spellbinder will make you fall in love with both of the Shadow Falls series all over again! Oh my goodness! After this novella, Miranda needs her own book- seriously, like yesterday.

Miranda wins a competition- her momma kinda bribes her into winning. You see, if Miranda got first place she would be on her way to Paris (where a certain shape-shifter who broke her heart is). Not only would she be on her way to Paris, but so would her besties with momma footing the bill. The only problem, someone is killing off the competition- so her life is in danger. Miranda takes that in stride and does not worry too much about her life. She is more concerned with everyone else’s safety. Gotta love how Miranda’s awesome magical ability shows up when she needs it most, but not when she wants it too.

Because her life is in danger- Shawn a FRU agent who is also a childhood friend is assigned to protect her. He is too cute in this story- he really cares about Miranda. It is evident that he cares, yet he still gives her space because of her broken heart. I feel so bad for him, because he knows he is perfect for her.

Once it is known to Perry that Miranda is in Paris- he comes running to see her. He knows he screwed up and is willing to do anything to fix it. Not only that but man, once he finds out she is in danger- off the charts swoon worthy moments.

Miranda’s family has secrets- ones that involve her archenemy Tabitha. Miranda doesn’t even know why they are archenemies. Tabitha is an amazing witch just like Miranda and ends up in the same competition- but is she the killer or the next victim. When they both end up in mortal danger you will never guess who shows up to save the day!

Spellbinder serves as a great reminder that Miranda has stories to tell and CC Hunter should listen to her. What a great novella- it makes me want to beg CC Hunter to continue the story after Unspoken is released in October. This story truly is that amazing!

Shadow Falls After Dark: Unspoken Teasers

The characters of Shadow Falls After Dark have been texting galore! What are they saying? Will it give us a hint about what will happen in Unspoken? I begged CC Hunter for a sneak peek into the lives of my favorite vamps and shape shifters.

Here are the texts that she teased me with. I am getting a little about being on Team Steve.  You got to hand it to him even in text he is a gentleman.  Please please Della forgive him...

Author Jennifer L. Armentrout
Format e-book

Publisher Avon
Published March 31, 2015

Eleven months ago, bartender and weird-shirt-wearing extraordinaire Roxy and Officer Reece Anders had a one night stand. Well, kind of. She’s been in love with him since she was fifteen, and he wishes that night they shared never happened. She’s sworn him off forever, but the past and future collide, forcing her to rely on the one man who broke her heart not once, but twice.

Her best friend since birth has been in a long-term care facility since he became a victim of a hate crime years ago, and the person who put him in there is out of prison and wanting to make amends with him and Roxy. She’s not sure she has room for forgiveness in her and when she begins to receive frightening messages and is on the receiving end of escalating violence, she thinks she knows who is to blame. The man who already destroyed one life already.

But Reece isn’t convinced. The threats are too personal, and even if Roxy doesn’t believe him, he’s not willing to let anyone hurt her. Including himself. He’s already messed up more than once when it comes to Roxy and he’s not going to let history repeat itself.

My Opinion

Roxy has been avoiding Reece for a long time even though she is madly in love with him. Reece is tired of the not knowing why and decides to take matters into his own hands. He wants Roxy back in his life. It couldn’t have happened at a better time because someone is harassing Roxy. Will Reece be able to protect her and win her back?

Roxy has had it rough- I mean Rough with a capital R. Man, has she pulled through though. She bartends and attends college. In her spare time, she paints. She is an artist at heart but she knows that will not pay the bills. Man, is she relatable though. She doesn’t crawl under the covers and hide. Instead she faces everything head on, everything that is except Reece. Her one weakness.

Reece grew up with Roxy’s brothers which by default means he grew up with Roxy. When he returns from the war, it is Roxy who pulls him out of his depression. Then something happened, he doesn’t remember what. He just knows that he lost the best thing in his life and he wants it back. Any form of it back. How can he get her back into his life when she won’t talk to him. Won’t tell him where their friendship went wrong? He has waited long enough- now it’s his time to do something about it. With a threat aimed directly at Roxy and a serial killer on the lose he is determined to keep her closer than ever. Reece is a fabulous book boyfriend- he is kind and gentle to Roxy. He is fierce and protective of her.

Roxy is one of my favorite JLA characters to date. Her quirky t-shirts and positive attitude makes me wish I knew her in real life. Fall With Me is one of my all-time favorite contemporary New Adult reads. If you are looking for a great love story that is totally believable go one-click right away.

My Rating 5 out of 5 stars

Waiting on Wednesday (24) Ink & Bone

Hey y'all, thanks so much for stopping by my WoW!
Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine which spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

In an exhilarating new series, New York Times bestselling author Rachel Caine rewrites history, creating a dangerous world where the Great Library of Alexandria has survived the test of time.…

Ruthless and supremely powerful, the Great Library is now a presence in every major city, governing the flow of knowledge to the masses. Alchemy allows the Library to deliver the content of the greatest works of history instantly—but the personal ownership of books is expressly forbidden.

Jess Brightwell believes in the value of the Library, but the majority of his knowledge comes from illegal books obtained by his family, who are involved in the thriving black market. Jess has been sent to be his family’s spy, but his loyalties are tested in the final months of his training to enter the Library’s service.

When he inadvertently commits heresy by creating a device that could change the world, Jess discovers that those who control the Great Library believe that knowledge is more valuable than any human life—and soon both heretics and books will burn.…

Why am I waiting?

Finally, a new series! I read the Morganville series during testing season at my work. I am excited that this author has a new series coming out.

He arched one brow and half smiled. "I knew exactly what you looked like in that lime-green bikini you used to wear when you came to swim with Ellen in our pool. I knew when you laughed, your hazel eyes brightened to a light green. I knew you eat ketchup on your scrambled eggs. I knew you had PE fifth period when I was a senior. I would sometimes walk through the gym just to get a glimpse of you in shorts and a tank top. And then there was our kiss?"

Jessica arrives back from the Underworld to find her father embroiled in a battle against the Made wolves. She and her crew drop everything to join them.

Once she arrives, the threat is after her. Jessica is lured into danger when her adversary takes something precious from her. With help from an unlikely source, Jessica goes up against her creator in a battle that will decide the path of everyone involved. She must war against a new set of foes, ones who could not only steal her power, but could take her soul as well.

My Opinion

Pure Blooded starts off right where Red Blooded ended. Jessica and gang are now out of the Underworld. Ramifications of her actions in the underworld will soon start to show themselves. Her daddy has decided to offer himself up in order to stop the person who is creating the Made wolves. What is it with the McClain crew offering themselves up as martyrs? Not only is this happening but the events of Red Blooded have caused Fate to be well pissed off. One of the hags is so angry that she is going to send everything she can at Jessica- even the Made wolves.

Woowziers, this book is jammed packed with action. Both the romantic Rourke/ Jessica kind and the kicking butt and taking names kind. Thank goodness for some Rourke/Jessica kind of action- Red Blooded was so severely lacking in this department that I was worried Pure Blooded would be too. Jessica does not know how good she has it with her pack and friends always standing beside her. Goodness knows that gal would be dead already without them. Pure Blooded reiterates this fact over and over again. Another mated pair is discovered, and one is hinted at.

Not only are there awesome moments with Rourke and Jessica but she has some great ones with her peeps-Danny, Naomi, Ray, Tyler and her bestie Marcy. Speaking of Marcy- that witch can spell and brew! Her humor sprinkled through the book reiterates why I love this series. Jessica’s trusted neighbor Juanita is even in on the action. Her true nature being revealed and honestly everyone is shocked. Human she is not.

Okay, so I have already stated why I love the book. You might be wondering about the four and a half star rating then. Normally, books I love get a five star rating but y’all I just couldn’t do it this time. You see – there was something that I absolutely hated about the book. It ends, yeah all books ends but this one just stops. As in I wasn’t expecting the ending to be where it was. I was expecting more to the story. I even looked to make sure that I didn’t accidently move my reading place. But no- it just stops. You are reading along, it is action-packed you are in your happy place and then bam the end. This reader was like what the what? Seriously, you are ending here? It is a great book, a must read but you have been warned the ending will sneak up on you and you will get mad.

My Rating 4.5 out of 5 stars

Review: Unbreakable

Author Kami Garcia
Format E-ARC
Print Length 305 pages
Publisher Little Brown Books for Young Readers
Published October 1, 2013

Supernatural meets The Da Vinci Code in this action-packed paranormal thriller, the first book in a new series from New York Times bestselling author Kami Garcia.

I never believed in ghosts. Until one tried to kill me.

When Kennedy Waters finds her mother dead, her world begins to unravel. She doesn’t know that paranormal forces in a much darker world are the ones pulling the strings. Not until identical twins Jared and Lukas Lockhart break into Kennedy’s room and destroy a dangerous spirit sent to kill her. The brothers reveal that her mother was part of an ancient secret society responsible for protecting the world from a vengeful demon — a society whose five members were all murdered on the same night.

Now Kennedy has to take her mother’s place in the Legion if she wants to uncover the truth and stay alive. Along with new Legion members Priest and Alara, the teens race to find the only weapon that might be able to destroy the demon — battling the deadly spirits he controls every step of the way.

Suspense, romance, and the paranormal meet in this chilling urban fantasy, the first book in a new series from Kami Garcia, bestselling coauthor of the Beautiful Creatures novels.

My Opinion

Kennedy’s daddy walked out on her and her momma. This broke her momma’s heart and Kennedy blames herself for daddy leaving. Momma raised her to be a free-spirited artist that she is. Unfortunately, Kennedy was born into a secret organization that her momma kept from her. This would not be a big deal, except momma dearest is dead and something is after Kennedy. In fact all of the adult members of the Legion (the secret society) are dead and their teenage counter parts have to pick up the pieces. Two brothers come in the nick of time and save her. Why do they save her? Because she is a member of the Legion, a secret group tasked with saving the world from a demon that their ancestors let lose decades ago. How do they stop the demon?

Okay, I am going to get this out of the way early on. Unbreakable reminded me of Supernatural the TV show. So much so, that I looked at the hubby and said I am reading a book that reminds me of Supernatural. There are brothers that act like hunters, a jack of all trades guy named Priest and a gal that reminds me of Jo. Regardless, it was still a good book.

Unbreakable is a fast-pace action packed adventure with a few swoony parts thrown in. Kennedy is clueless as a heroine yet she steps up to the plate and plays ball. She rarely complains about her life- she does have daddy issues though. Her attraction to the brothers is well played and it is pretty clear early on which one she will choose for a friend verses a boyfriend. So really it is a tale of the love triangle that wasn’t. The brothers, have issues but honestly which sibling pairing doesn’t have issues. The creation of the secret society- The Legion is a great touch to this tale. I love that each of the five members has specific roles to play. The clues that they follow to ensure that the demon is kept out of our realm is extremely interesting. The ending is HELLO MA’AM and THANK YOU for making me drool from wanting the sequel so badly. Overall, this book is entertaining unless you are mega supernatural fan and think of this book as a knock-off.

My Rating 4 out of 5 stars.

Review: Dragon Marked

Author Jaymin Eve
Format e-book
Print Length ?
Publisher Self-published
Published Jan. 27, 2015

Book 1 in Upper YA/NA Paranormal Romance Trilogy.

There are supernatural prisons hidden across the globe. Contained within these fortresses are some of the deadliest criminals from the five supernatural races: vampire, shifter, fey, magic users and demi-fey.

Jessa Lebron, twenty-two, has spent her entire life in Stratford, Connecticut, one of the gateway towns adjoining these prisons which protect the fortified borders. She’s a wolf shifter, and her father leads the town council. She learns that much of her life has been hidden from her, secrets which threaten to tear apart the very fabric of her world. Especially the biggest secret of them all.

She is dragon marked.

Jessa only knows what she’s been told about the dragon marked, that they are dangerous and must be eliminated to prevent the rise of the dragon king, the powerful warmonger who had his head removed a thousand years ago. So now Jessa's on the biggest hit list of all. Dragon mark hunters are lethal and her only hope to evade detection is to keep the energy contained.

As more secrets unfold she finds herself locked up in Vanguard, the notorious American supernatural prison. Thankfully she’s not alone. Braxton, the dragon-shifter has her back. Together they must survive long enough to free themselves and the other dragon marked.

Because it’s time for the dragon marked to rise.

My Opinion

Growing up Jessa always believed that her momma left her and her daddy one night. But the reality of the situation is so much more. Maybe even more than Jessa can handle. Jessa doesn’t know she is dragon-marked, doesn’t know that she is in mortal danger. All of the changes may have overwhelmed her if it hadn’t been for the Quads- a group of brothers that possess different supernatural abilities.

The Quads are rare in the supernatural world- as in the last set to be born were born 400 years ago. They have been Jessa’s best friend since grade school. Each brother would gladly give their life for her as she would for them. With the revelation of Jessa’s dragon-marked status comes a separate discovery one involving the Quads. This new discovery could be what breaks them all.

There is something going on between Jessa and Braxton. What it is… is anyone’s guess though. There is an attraction there but it is not explored. He takes care of her almost as if she is his true mate but that can’t be. He is a dragon shifter- they only mate with other dragon shifters.  She response to him as if he is her true mate but again typically wolves true mates are well wolves.

There is very little romance in Dragon Marked and for once I am totally okay with that. There are enough swoony moments between Brax and Jessa to make you believe that there is more going on The story sets up very well for there to be a romance between Braxton and Jessa in the next story.   Hopefully, that is where the author is intending to go.

Dragon Marked is a book I picked up on a whim. Not really going in expecting anything. It is my holy cowziers find of 2015. Seriously it has it all- action, the feels and of course the cliffhanger at the end. Seriously, you need to leave this page and go one-click this book. You will not be disappointed.

My Rating 5 stars out of 5

Review: Going Down In Flames

Author Chris Cannon
Format e-Book
Print Length 407 pages
Publisher Entangled Teen Ember
Published June 30, 2014

If her love life is going down in flames, she might as well spark a revolution.

Finding out on your sixteenth birthday you’re a shape-shifting dragon is tough to swallow. Being hauled off to an elite boarding school is enough to choke on.

Since Bryn is the only crossbreed at the Institute for Excellence, all eyes are on her, but it’s a particular black dragon, Zavien, who catches her attention.

Zavien is tired of the Council’s rules. Segregated clans, being told who to love, and close-minded leaders make freedom of choice almost impossible. The new girl with the striped hair is a breath of fresh air, and with Bryn’s help, they may be able to change the rules.

At the Institute, old grudges, new crushes, and death threats are all part of a normal day for Bryn. She’ll need to learn to control her dragon powers if she wants to make it through her first year at school. But even focusing on staying alive is difficult when you’re falling for someone you can't have.

My Opinion

Bryn’s parents have chosen to raise her unaware of her heritage. They have chosen to raise her in the human world. This would not be a bad thing except you see Bryn is a dragon. Not just any dragon- a mixed breed dragon, as in a forbidden dragon. When she is sixteen her dragon powers manifest and she has to be sent to the Institute of Excellence- where she can learn to control her dragon impulses. This is also where she learns about the draconic rules of the dragon society.

You see in the dragon world there are four clans: Red, Blue, Black and Orange. The clans can only marry and mate within each sector. Bryn’s parents break the rules. This causes Bryn a lot of heartache at her knew boarding school. Very little people of accepting of her, some even want her dead.

Bryn is okay being an outcast. She thinks the rules are ridiculous. Thankfully, she has a feisty and inquisitive nature because she is going to need it. Having been raised in the human world she questions all the rules- the purpose behind them, and the consequences of them. This will cause some of the people in the dragon world to become upset with her. Bryn isn’t afraid to rock a few boats though.

Zavien is the dragon that finds Bryn and opens her eyes to the dragon world. With all the rules though, their attraction is forbidden. He is a pureblooded dragon, she is not. While he helps her out a lot, one can’t help but wonder about his motives.

Going Down With Flames is a fun read- a great one for the beach or a rainy day. The world that Cannon creates is intriguing and beautiful. Hopefully, in the next book Bryn can get her HEA.

My Rating 4 out of 5 stars

Michael Merrick understands pressure. He's the only parent his three brothers have had for years. His power to control Earth could kill someone if he miscalculates. Now an Elemental Guide has it in for his family, and he's all that stands in the way.

His girlfriend, Hannah, understands pressure too. She's got a child of her own, and a job as a firefighter that could put her life in danger at any moment.

But there are people who have had enough of Michael's defiance, his family's 'bad luck'. Before he knows it, Michael's enemies have turned into the Merricks' enemies, and they're armed for war.

They're not interested in surrender. But Michael isn't the white flag type anyway. Everything is set for the final showdown.

Four elements, one family. Will they hold together, or be torn apart?

My Opinion

Sacrifice is the fifth book in the series, the one that stars the amazing Michael Merrick. What makes him amazing? Well, his parents die and instead of boo whooing he steps up and demands custody of his three brothers. He shows unwavering support of them as they get into and out of trouble. He is conscience of his decisions and knows that his actions reflect on how he raises the boys. In part, he is the parent figure and he plays the role well. For the last four books, Michael has protected his family at all cost. In this installment, the cost may very well be his life.

As a hero- Michael kicks major butt. He is always present, always in control and always there for his brothers. Sometimes though, it can be draining- he wonders what it would be like if. He understands that the if will never happen- it can’t happen but still there is the wondering. His family is in danger- his loved ones are in danger. This causes him to push away from Hannah, his love interest.

Hannah- as a grown-up she is annoying. She whines constantly about her mistake- getting pregnant at 17 and all that she gives up. She complains about how people view her and does nothing to make up for their impressions. Honestly, there are times I want to slap her since she is a fictional character I won’t. For goodness sakes, she is a momma she needs to act like one.

The Guides are still after the Merricks. Can Michael protect all of them and their loved ones or will someone be sacrificed? The book ends- with well an ending. But nothing is resolved. I looked, there is no sixth book planned- so what happens? Will Michael and Hannah be together? Will the Guides stop hunting them? The people who lost their lives to the war, will there be closure?

I hate when a series ends with more questions than when it begins.

My Rating 3 out of 5 stars

Review: Hello, I Love You

Author Katie M. Stout
Format e-ARC
Print Length 304 pages
Publisher St. Martin’s Griffin
Published June 9, 2015

A teen escapes to a boarding school abroad and falls for a Korean pop star in this fun and fresh romantic novel in the vein of Anna and the French Kiss.

Grace Wilde is running—from the multi-million dollar mansion her record producer father bought, the famous older brother who’s topped the country music charts five years in a row, and the mother who blames her for her brother’s breakdown. Grace escapes to the farthest place from home she can think of, a boarding school in Korea, hoping for a fresh start.

She wants nothing to do with music, but when her roommate Sophie’s twin brother Jason turns out to be the newest Korean pop music superstar, Grace is thrust back into the world of fame. She can't stand Jason, whose celebrity status is only outmatched by his oversized ego, but they form a tenuous alliance for the sake of her friendship with Sophie. As the months go by and Grace adjusts to her new life in Korea, even she can't deny the sparks flying between her and the KPOP idol.

Soon, Grace realizes that her feelings for Jason threaten her promise to herself that she'll leave behind the music industry that destroyed her family. But can Grace ignore her attraction to Jason and her undeniable pull of the music she was born to write? Sweet, fun, and romantic, this young adult novel explores what it means to experience first love and discover who you really are in the process.

My Opinion

Sometimes life gets to be too much. Sometimes you want to run away- anywhere will do. A tragic event leads Grace Wilde to run away. She runs all the way to a boarding school in South Korea. She knows nothing about South Korea just that is far away from her Tennessee home and the tabloid reporters that are stalking her family.

Thankfully, her roommate was raised in America. At least she will have someone to talk to. Grace knows no Korean, so her roomie’s twin brother Jason becomes her tutor. Jason is in a Korean pop band. He is not taking to celebrity life so well. He wants to make music- but to be honest being a celebrity is hard. There are fans everywhere- hopefully Grace can help him out.

Depending on how you read this book you could potentially see Grace as two different characters. Some will see her as an ego-centeric American. Others will see her as a girl who is about to experience a new culture for the first time. I saw her as someone who in a moment of panic makes a split decision- was it a good decision. Time would only tell, but at least she is experiencing new things. Sometimes it is hard to go out of your comfort zone. Grace does this with a maturity that is seldom seen in someone her age. She embraces Korean culture. Yes, she does compare it to her old way of life- but to be honest who wouldn’t.

Jason for the first half of the book is well a jerk. He knows it though and has his reasons for it. Grace unlike everyone else calls him on it. This helps him to become more comfortable around her and to open up. He starts taking her advice and his career improves. That is until it doesn’t and then Grace is there to pick up the pieces.

Hello, I Love You is a cute coming of age tale. It is about a girl who runs away and a boy who stays. Both have some growing up to do. Thankfully they can do it together.

My Rating 4 out of 5 stars

THE RETURN Synopsis: The Fates are cackling their bony asses off... It's been a year since Seth made the deal with the gods that pledged his life to them. And so far, the jobs they've given him have been violent and bloody--which is kind of all right with him. But now Apollo has something else in mind for Seth. He's got to play protector while keeping his hands and fingers off, and for someone who really has a problem with restraint, this new assignment might be the most challenging yet. Josie has no idea what this crazy hot guy's deal might be, but it's a good bet that his arrival means the new life she started after leaving home is about to be thrown into an Olympian-sized blender turned up to puree. Either Josie is going insane or a nightmare straight out of ancient myth is gunning for her. But it might be the unlikely attraction simmering between her and the golden-eyed, secret-keeping Seth that may prove to be the most dangerous thing of all. Because history has once again been flipped to repeat.

Review: The Witch Hunter

Author Virginia Boecker
Format e-ARC
Print Length 368 pages
Publisher Little, Brown Books for Young Readers
Published June 2, 2015

The magic and suspense of Graceling meet the political intrigue and unrest of Game of Thrones in this riveting fantasy debut.

Your greatest enemy isn't what you fight, but what you fear.

Elizabeth Grey is one of the king's best witch hunters, devoted to rooting out witchcraft and doling out justice. But when she's accused of being a witch herself, Elizabeth is arrested and sentenced to burn at the stake.

Salvation comes from a man she thought was her enemy. Nicholas Perevil, the most powerful and dangerous wizard in the kingdom, offers her a deal: he will save her from execution if she can break the deadly curse that's been laid upon him.

But Nicholas and his followers know nothing of Elizabeth's witch hunting past--if they find out, the stake will be the least of her worries. And as she's thrust into the magical world of witches, ghosts, pirates, and one all-too-handsome healer, Elizabeth is forced to redefine her ideas of right and wrong, of friends and enemies, and of love and hate.

Virginia Boecker weaves a riveting tale of magic, betrayal, and sacrifice in this unforgettable fantasy debut.

My Opinion

As a child, Elizabeth’s knight in shining armor came in the form of a boy named Caleb. Caleb rescued her after her parents died. Caleb took her to the Inquistor and begged him to let her train as a witch hunter. Caleb ensured that she was the best witch hunter in the kingdom. So it is no surprise that when she is accused of witchcraft Caleb would have her back. Except he leaves her in the jail cell- he promised to come for her, so where is he?

A witch, the most powerful witch in all the land, Nicholas Perevil saves her. Why? Since she was hunting him, would he save her? Well, a seer told him that she is the only one that can lift the curse placed on him. A curse that is slowly killing him. With her fellow witch hunters now hunting her, Elizabeth’s only course of action is to help Nicholas.

Elizabeth is a girl who thought she knew it all only to find out that her beliefs are lies. Sometimes your greatest enemy is your own friends and family. She has a lot of WOW is Me moments in the book. But with the entire kingdom hunting her there really is no better time to cry and whine about your life.

On the romance front- the book is lacking in this area. Elizabeth starts off with a crush on her knight in shining armor, Caleb. When he betrays her a handsome healer name John sweeps her off her feet. Literally, she has jail fever and can’t stand on her own. While there is some nice moments between her and John I did not buy into their romance.

The Witch Hunter is an compelling historical fantasy. The use of magic helps to mesmerize the reader. While one would hope for more romance the reality is that the story is just as good without it.

My Rating 4 out of 5 stars

Favorite Quote I watch him go, wishing more than anything I was the kind of girl who could make him stay.

Review:The Marriage Contract

Author Katee Robert
Format e-ARC
Print Length ?
Publisher Forever
Published June 2, 2015

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Katee Robert begins a smoking hot new series about the O'Malley family-wealthy, powerful, dangerous and seething with scandal.

Teague O'Malley hates pretty much everything associated with his family's name. And when his father orders him to marry Callista Sheridan to create a "business" alliance, Teague's ready to tell his dad exactly where he can stuff his millions. But then Teague actually meets his new fiancée, sees the bruises on her neck and the fight still left in her big blue eyes, and vows he will do everything in his power to protect her.

Everyone knows the O'Malleys have a dangerous reputation. But Callie wasn't aware just what that meant until she saw Teague, the embodiment of lethal grace and coiled power. His slightest touch sizzles through her. But the closer they get, the more trouble they're in. Because Callie's keeping a dark secret-and what Teague doesn't know could get him killed.

My Opinion

I read a mobster tale and I liked it! This was my first mobster story and I have to say I will be waiting for the second one in the series. There are three reigning mob families in Boston- the Sheridans, the Hallorans and the O’Malleys. Callista is a mob princess who was about to announce her engagement to a mob prince from the Hallorans family. Her future hubby was a total meanie and ends up dead- no one knows who killed him. His family gets offended when the announcement is made that instead of marrying into their family she will be marrying into the O’Malleys’ family. Hence a mob war is started over this disrespect.

Teague O’Malley is the groom, the second son in the O’Malley family his biggest concern is keeping his siblings safe. That is until his oldest siblings have him agreeing to marry Callista. Now on top of keeping his siblings safe- he has to keep his fiancé safe as well. Normally, this wouldn’t be a problem but the Hallorans out for blood. Teague will try to contact an old friend, a kindred spirit in James Halloran both second sons, both wishing they were born under different circumstances. Halloran tells him to find the person who murdered his brother- that is the only way to end the war.

Callista is an interesting character- she does not hate the family business. She actually can counterbalance the bad with all the good that it does. She just wants her family to go legit- get out of the illegal stuff. She has a good head on her shoulders. I get why she keeps her secret, I mean she barely knows her fiancé. Her secret though, it is a doozy. Will Teague be able to look past it?

I adore Teague- if all mobster sons were like this I would totally be falling for them left and right. He is so protective of his siblings and Callie. Watching him with her is adorable. He takes this engagement seriously, he knows that the marriage will be for life. In the mob world there is no other option.

This is a story about love, family and what you will be willing to do for both. The family dynamics in all three households are intriguing. To be honest towards the end the relationship aspect of James and Carrigan actually take over for me. I didn’t mean to get more involved in their lives I just trusted that Teagan would take care of his own, and Callie’s.

My Rating 4 out of 5 stars

Book Trailer Saturday (11) The Heir

Some people believe you can fall in love at first sight. When it comes to books I believe those people. Book trailers are an excellent way to fall in love at first sight. I hope to feature a book trailer here every Saturday to help you fall in love at first sight...

Princess Eadlyn has grown up hearing endless stories about how her mother and father met. Twenty years ago, America Singer entered the Selection and won the heart of Prince Maxon—and they lived happily ever after. Eadlyn has always found their fairy-tale story romantic, but she
has no interest in trying to repeat it. If it were up to her, she'd put off marriage for as long as possible.

But a princess's life is never entirely her own, and Eadlyn can't escape her very own Selection—no matter how fervently she protests.

Eadlyn doesn't expect her story to end in romance. But as the competition begins, one entry may just capture Eadlyn's heart, showing her all the possibilities that lie in front of her . . . and proving that finding her own happily ever after isn't as impossible as she's always thought.

Review: Descent

Author Tara Fuller
Format e-ARC
Print Length 320 pages
Publisher Entangled: Teen
Published June 2, 2015

Easton doesn’t believe in love. He believes in Death. Darkness. Sin. As a reaper for Hell, it’s all he’s known for over four hundred years. When he gets slapped with the job of training the boss’s daughter, an angel who knows nothing but joy, he knows he’s in for a world of trouble.

Though he’s made it clear he wants nothing to do with her outside of work, Gwen would do anything to get closer to the dark and wounded reaper—even taint her angelic image and join the ranks of her father’s team of reapers. But in all her planning, she forgot to factor in one thing—how far the demons Easton doomed to hell would go to get revenge.

When the dangers of the Hell threaten Gwen, Easton will do whatever it takes to save her. But as the darkness closes in on them both, will he be able to save himself?

My Opinion

If you want a series to end on a great note- look no farther than a Tara Fuller series! Descent starts off several weeks after the events of Blurred. It seems that everyone got their Happily Ever After-Emma and Finn, Cash and Anaya- everyone that is but Easton. What can you truly expect for a reaper who has been on the job for 400 years? Not only did Easton not get his happily ever after- now he is paying the price of his friends happiness. Yepper, he is reaping for three people now not just his zone but Finn’s and Anaya’s. This seems well a little unfair- especially since Anaya’s angel friends hate the sight of him. Which by the way isn’t very angelie if you ask me.

Easton was my favorite character in the first two books- yes, even though he was a secondary character. Easton is well… pragmatic, logical and practical. He does his job and he does it well. He follows the rules and knows he has to atone for what he did on earth. Although, once you find out why- you may be on Easton’s side. The one time he gives a heavenly soul to his apprentice Scout- he screws up. The soul ends up in Hell and it is up to Easton and the soul’s angel of joy- Gwen to save him. To do this Easton will have to fight the demons in Hell- both personal and the one’s he delivered.

Gwen as an angel of joy wants to help Easton as well as her charge. She tries to help him but he keeps pushing her away. So what is a gal to do but ask her daddy to show her the ropes of well Hell. Balthazar will only put her with the best reaper, who just happens to be Easton. For an angel, Gwen is well kinda manipulative, even if it is for the betterment of society.

Easton is only supposed to scare Gwen away from her daddy’s line of work. But Gwen has some gumption to her. Once she finds out that her charge was not taken to heaven well honey this is one angel that will move heaven and earth- even risk the depths of Hell to return him to his love.

I just love a forbidden love story- I love how Easton fights his attraction to Gwen with every fiber of his being. I love how Gwen doesn’t understand what her love for Easton means. Pretty much I love this book. Regardless of the romance they both keep their eye on the ball- retrieving the soul from Hell. Gwen’s determination and Easton’s protectiveness is a perfect combination.

My Rating 5 out of 5 stars
