Review: Magic Eclipse

Author Ella Summers
Format e-book
Print Length 194 pages

Published September 15, 2016

They were lovers. Now they’re enemies.

A magic shock wave cuts across the world—fracturing reality, leaving only a dark Shadow World in its place.

Former monster-hunting mercenary mage Sera Dering is fighting for her right to exist. Labeled as an abomination, she’s caught in a supernatural war that has been raging for centuries between her kind and the Magic Council’s Crusaders. But when people from both sides begin to go missing, Sera has to team up with Kai Drachenburg, the Crusaders’ commander. She soon discovers that the mysterious fog rolling across San Francisco is only half as dangerous as the sexy, powerful dragon-shifting mage who brings out memories in her of a forgotten world.

As the commander of the Crusaders’ North American army and a member of one of the world’s oldest magic dynasties, it is Kai’s sworn duty to hate Sera. But as they work together to fight the magic fog plaguing the city, he finds himself drawn to her in ways he cannot understand. Their new alliance is tested, however, when they begin to realize that someone close to them is behind the dark spell—and that the fog is more than it seems.

Magic Eclipse is the first book in the Dragon Born Shadow World trilogy.

My Opinion

You know those books that you read just because? The series may not be well known but you still fangirl over it anyway? When you notice a new release, you one click the heck out of it and clear your schedule? That is what the Dragon Born series was for me, and when it ended I was happy. I loved the closure we got with Kai and Sera. Then the author releases another book about them? Oh no what has happened to my beloved couple?

Apparently a dark spell falls upon them, someone or thing has made a deal with a demon. Their reality has been altered. Instead of planning a wedding, they are literally on the opposite sides of a supernatural war. Kai is hunting Sera and Sera is hunting supplies for the other dragon born. All of them have joined Makani to fight the council who have deemed them abominations that must be killed.

Sera and Kai on different sides was a strange pill to swallow. It worked, only because we knew the true back story of them. I enjoyed the alternate reality aspect of this book. Kai is still the headstrong alpha dragon mage that he always was. His honor still being worn for all to see. He fights his attraction to Sera with all his might. He also tries to make sure that the first between the supernatural world and the Dragon born is done fairly (often times this is not the case). Sera is not only a former mercenary, she is second in command for Makani. A place of honor and yet one that is often misunderstood. She has the job of handling the responsibilities for their base. She tries to protect those around her, at all cost.

The chemistry and banter between these two are off the charts. They both fight it, and yet Alex (Sera’s twin) calls her out on it every chance she gets. The interactions between fan favorites Naomi and Alex with Sera and of course the Commandos.

If you are going to read this one, I highly recommend starting with the first book of the original series. It will be worth it. Otherwise you will miss something. Magic Eclipse was a fun read that leaves you wondering what happens next.

My Rating 3 out of 5 stars

"Oh, honey... You couldn't be more wrong," he murmured. "Do you have any idea how many times I've dreamed of kissing you, holding you?"

Finally, Gabe is telling her how he feels. It really is about time.

"Well, I do," he assured her, dragging on his T-shirt and giving her a pointed look. "I expect for you to give me a shot to prove I' the kind of man who deserves you."

And then he goes and lays it all on the table. Gotta love a man who is straightforward about his intentions.

Waiting on Wednesday (39) Bound By Blood and Sand

Hey y'all, thanks so much for stopping by my WoW!

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine which spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Jae is a slave in a dying desert world.

Once verdant with water from a magical Well, the land is drying
up, and no one remembers the magic needed to keep the water flowing. If a new source isn’t found soon, the people will perish. Jae doesn’t mind, in a way. By law, she is bound by a curse to obey every order given her, no matter how vile. At least in death, she’ll be free.

Lord Elan’s family rules the fading realm. He comes to the estate where Jae works, searching for the hidden magic needed to replenish the Well, but it’s Jae who finds it, and she who must wield it. Desperate to save his realm, Elan begs her to use it to locate the Well.

But why would a slave—abused, beaten, and treated as less than human—want to save the system that shackles her? Jae would rather see the world burn.

Though revenge clouds her vision, she agrees to help if the kingdom’s slaves are freed. Then Elan’s father arrives. The ruler’s cruelty knows no limits. He is determined that the class system will not change—and that Jae will remain a slave forever.

Why I am Waiting?

Why oh why would she help them? She knows that the King won’t honor the agreement. What was she thinking? And will Elan step in and help her?

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)

"Well, thank you for finally dropping the bullshit, Commander. I was your prisoner all this time after all. And to think I was actually starting to like you. My mistake. My first impression of you was spot on. You are an insufferable, arroggant, savage, demented psychopath."

"I can see why you're in love with him. He does have a certain ruthless charm to him beneath all that armor."

Sera's cheeks flushed. "I'm not in love with him."

Alex grinned. "Sure you are. I can see it in your eyes when you look at him. I can feel it in that sappy, gooey magic of yours. L-O-V-E."

I love the way Sera puts Kai in his place.  Really not liking this Kai too much- hope the spell wears off soon.  I adore the way Alex teases her sister about her feelings even in the time of war.

Review: The Distance Between Us

Author Kasie West
Format e-book
Print Length 312 pages

Published July 2, 2013

Seventeen-year-old Caymen Meyers studies the rich like her own personal science experiment, and after years of observation she’s pretty sure they’re only good for one thing—spending money on useless stuff, like the porcelain dolls in her mother’s shop.

So when Xander Spence walks into the store to pick up a doll for his grandmother, it only takes one glance for Caymen to figure out he’s oozing rich. Despite his charming ways and that he’s one of the first people who actually gets her, she’s smart enough to know his interest won’t last. Because if there’s one thing she’s learned from her mother’s warnings, it’s that the rich have a short attention span. But Xander keeps coming around, despite her best efforts to scare him off. And much to her dismay, she's beginning to enjoy his company.

She knows her mom can’t find out—she wouldn’t approve. She’d much rather Caymen hang out with the local rocker who hasn’t been raised by money. But just when Xander’s attention and loyalty are about to convince Caymen that being rich isn’t a character flaw, she finds out that money is a much bigger part of their relationship than she’d ever realized. And that Xander’s not the only one she should’ve been worried about.

My Opinion

I have read three Kasie West's books back to back. I enjoyed all of them, although this was my least favorite. It probably was due to reading the other two right before this one though.

Caymen is an only child to a single momma, who happens to own a doll shop. Xander is a Richie Rich kinda guy who is sent on an errand for his momma. Caymen catches his eye and he tries to catch hers. While he does catch her eye, she protect her heart as she knows that rich guys don’t stick around.

Caymen is a character that I really liked. She is snarky, with an extra side of sarcasm. She is realistic about the differences between those with and those without. She has a good relationship with her momma, although Xander does put a strain on it. She has a good head on her shoulders and values school, yet not as much as family.

Xander is the reason for the three stars. I was really into him for the first 100 pages and then he just stopped being so awesome and became ordinary.  (I blame Braden.)  He was just okay for me, I wanted to like him as much as I did the last two male leads (not giving spoilers as one of the last books was PS I Like You, which has a mystery guy) yet I just didn’t. I am not sure if it was because he glosses over the differences between them when Caymen faces it head on. Or if it is because it took knowing Caymen to understand that burning a shirt is not worthy of getting fired. He is sweet, and does seem to care about Caymen just not so sure he is stick around material.

The Distance between Us is a cute read and you will not regret reading it. There are a lot of sweet moments between the two main characters. Their misunderstandings are always with communication and they both face that up front instead of hiding behind it, which was refreshing. While the female lead was right up my alley, the male lead seems too good to be true.

My Rating 3 out of 5 stars

Book Trailer Saturday (39) Fall With Me

Some people believe you can fall in love at first sight. When it comes to books I believe those people. Book trailers are an excellent way to fall in love at first sight. I hope to feature a book trailer here every Saturday to help you fall in love at first sight.

Eleven months ago, bartender and weird-shirt-wearing extraordinaire Roxy and Officer Reece Anders had a one night stand. Well, kind of. She’s been in love with him since she was fifteen, and he wishes
that night they shared never happened. She’s sworn him off forever, but the past and future collide, forcing her to rely on the one man who broke her heart not once, but twice.

Her best friend since birth has been in a long-term care facility since he became a victim of a hate crime years ago, and the person who put him in there is out of prison and wanting to make amends with him and Roxy. She’s not sure she has room for forgiveness in her and when she begins to receive frightening messages and is on the receiving end of escalating violence, she thinks she knows who is to blame. The man who already destroyed one life already.

But Reece isn’t convinced. The threats are too personal, and even if Roxy doesn’t believe him, he’s not willing to let anyone hurt her. Including himself. He’s already messed up more than once when it comes to Roxy and he’s not going to let history repeat itself.

Review: On the Fence

Author Kasie West
Format e-book
Print Length 296 pages
Publisher HarperTeen
Published July 1, 2014

For sixteen-year-old Charlotte Reynolds, aka Charlie, being raised by a single dad and three older brothers has its perks. She can outrun, outscore, and outwit every boy she knows—including her longtime neighbor and honorary fourth brother, Braden. But when it comes to being a girl, Charlie doesn't know the first thing about anything. So when she starts working at chichi boutique to pay off a speeding ticket, she finds herself in a strange new world of makeup, lacy skirts, and BeDazzlers. Even stranger, she's spending time with a boy who has never seen her tear it up in a pickup game.

To cope with the stress of faking her way through this new reality, Charlie seeks late-night refuge in her backyard, talking out her problems with Braden by the fence that separates them. But their Fence Chats can't solve Charlie's biggest problem: she's falling for Braden. Hard. She knows what it means to go for the win, but if spilling her secret means losing him for good, the stakes just got too high.

My Opinion

As the only girl in a family of four children, Charlie had no chance at becoming a girly girl. Her widow father did the best that he could, it just wasn’t girly enough. Oh she could protect herself like no other, and she honestly didn’t need to- three older, muscled out big brothers are protection enough especially with their best friend Braden willing to help out. Circumstances, totally her own fault, force Charlie to get a job at a boutique in a shopping center owned by a new ager name Linda. Linda expects a certain attire to be worn at work, and it is not Charlie’s normal blue jeans and t-shirt. When Charlie subs in as a make-up model, she becomes friends with Amber. She also begins to like things that are a little more girly than a Saturday pick-up game.

I liked Charlie, she is likeable. She is confident in herself in all areas- brains, sports, food, fitting in with the guys. She is noticeably uncomfortable with things she is not familiar with- make-up , dresses/ skirts, dating. This is perfectly normal as she had no one to show her the ropes. Until her new job and Amber show up. One my favorite parts is when she is on a date and how she acts.

Braden was a cute love interest, although I am a little annoyed that he only showed interest in her when another guy did. Who does that? He is always there for her, and tries so hard to stand by her. You can tell that he cares about her. Their interactions both together in front of the siblings and against the fence are adorable. Although, I was a bit angry with him for the question he asked the other guys during the pick-up game. I felt that he was out of line, there and it was only to humiliate Charlie as he was angry with her.

On the Fence is a cute contemporary romance about a girl and the boy next door. It is a light read, with a bit of gray mixed in (certain parts are a bit sad). Overall, the characters are likeable, and get along great with each other. I would recommend this one for pretty much anyone.

My Rating 4 out of 5 stars

I look at the cup- the same as yesterday's.

He grabs the cup from me, takes a drink then hands it back.

I am kinda digging Xander. Sarcasm doesn't scare him off, and neither does the back off signals she keeps throwing his way.  Besides, he is bring her hot chocolate, and that is just adorable.

Review: P.S. I Like You

Author Kasie West
Format e-book
Print Length 330 pages

Signed, sealed, delivered…

While spacing out in chemistry class, Lily scribbles some of her favorite song lyrics onto her desk. The next day, she finds thatsomeone has continued the lyrics on the desk and added a message to her. Intrigue!

Soon, Lily and her anonymous pen pal are exchanging full-on letters—sharing secrets, recommending bands, and opening up to each other. Lily realizes she’s kind of falling for this letter writer. Only, who is he? As Lily attempts to unravel the mystery and juggle school, friends, crushes, and her crazy family, she discovers that matters of the heart can’t always be spelled out…

My Opinion

Typically I do not like contemporary and tend to avoid them at all cost. I loved The Fill-In Boyfriend which was my first experience with a Kasie West novel. When this one came out I was weary from all the hype. I really wanted to read it. Typically books with that much hype tend to fall flat, which is why I waited so long to read this one. I know, two months is not that long but it felt longer than two months.

Have you ever been in a class, one that you hated? You weren’t any good at it and you tended to daydream. Then you know what Lily is going through, only her teacher took away her one true way to handle the class- her notebook. So she writes a lyric of an Indie band on the desk. The next day a new lyric was on the desk. From there the pen pal relationship takes off- as does the mystery, who is the pen pal?

Lily is a teenager, one who has a family first motto. This is hard for some people to understand, but I get it- having four kids of my own. Lily isn’t lost due to her siblings, yet she is defined by them and her parents. This makes her unreliable at times, which is hard and can put a strain on anyone’s friendship. She is also a tad bit cynical, and socially awkward. These character traits sound negative, I found them charming. Pretty much everything about this book was charming. Lily has a goal- to become a song writer now all she has to do is write a song.

The pen pal, I enjoyed the relationship that built with Lily and the pen pal. I also knew that it couldn’t last. Lily at first did not want to know who the pen pal was- what a great way to ruin a good thing. With this person she could be herself and not worry about judgement. They also opened up to her, and it was nice. Comfortable hiding among the masses.

The usual suspects- David, band guy that Isabel keeps bring around then Lucas, senior taking a repeat Chemistry class and finally Cade, Lily’s nemesis. David is a bit like Lily, awkward. He tries though, you gotta give him that especially after what happened the first time he went to Lily’s class. Lucas was a bit too nonchalant for me. Cade, I didn’t understand why they hated each other. They did though and that makes it hard to like him.

The love interest is one of these three, and to be fair you find out who it is about 42% of the way in. You could guess the right answer. I adore this guy, puffy heart adore him. I know I shouldn’t I know I need to be with Lily on this one. I can’t help it. There is something about him that just makes me smile. I adore the scene where she marches up to him and he tells her like it is. There is another scene in this book that involves her, and eventually him that made me boohoo guy tears of aaaahhhh that is so sweet. I know kinda sappy and for me to like it is nothing short of a miracle. Regardless all of their interactions were able to make me smile.

Lily’s family is loud, quirky and so real that at times it felt like sitting at my dining room table. Right down to the aunts and cousins being in your business. I loved the aspect that they play in the storyline. It was harder for me to like Isabel. I felt that she was a bit pushy when it comes to Lily’s love life or lack there of. When it is explained I get it, and then I get mad at her.

P.S. I Like You is one of those books that captivates you. It pulls you back to high school where everything is major and every slight side eye dramatic. With every turn of the page, you feel the emotions of Lily and the pen pal.

My Rating 5 out of 5  stars

Review: Eternal Sacrifice

Author Stacey O”Neale
Format e-book
Print Length 300 pages
Publisher Phoenix Reign Publishing
Published June 28, 2016

he explosive conclusion to Stacey O’Neale’s award-winning Mortal Enchantment series reveals the secrets of the fantasy world!

Valac has stolen two of the sacred objects. In a bid to rule all four courts, he has threatened to use Excalibur to cut the mist that protects Avalon—ultimately ending the lives of thousands of elementals. As the Akasha, Kalin has the power to stop him. And she refuses to lose anyone else she loves.

Will she have to sacrifice herself to save them?

Desperate to save Kalin’s life, Rowan searches for the long-lost creator of the mist. But what he finds is the very last thing he expected. Everything he thought he knew about his past is turned upside down, and he questions whether he’s meant to be the savior or the elemental that destroys them all.

Told from Kalin, Rowan, and Marcus’s perspective, the final installment to the series follows their journey of courage, duty, sacrifice, and love.

My Opinion

***May contain spoilers from previous books***

Eternal Sacrifice starts off right where Fragile Reign (my favorite book in the series) ends. Kalin is now the queen of the Air Elementals. While her people are still in mourning she has not a minute to catch her breathe. Valac is still out there, and still threating to cut the barrier that allows protection for the elementals. At the end of Fragile Reign we find that the only way to prevent destruction is with the Akasha, Kalin giving up her life. Rowan refuses to accept this and goes on a journey to find another way.

I was skeptical at first when I found out that this would be told in three points of view- Kalin, Rowan and Marcus’. I wasn’t sure how he would play into the mix and I was worried that it would take away from my Rowan time. A little selfish I am sure, but hey at least I am woman enough to admit it. His voice added a special element to the story. The events that unfold do so rapidly and it was nice to see when he was the voice of reason, as well as when he had to be reasoned with.

The connection these characters (Kalin, Rowan, Marcus and Ariel) have to each other is pretty hard core. It gives the book the added boost it need to push it from a good book to a great book. I cannot say enough about how four individuals truly understand each other. I know I am suppose to like Selene now, but I don’t. I think Ariel and Marcus would be disappointed, I am okay with that. She just rubs me the wrong way.

At one point in the book, I did have tweet- why? Why? Why? As well as a bit of how could you? I hoped it was as painful for the author as it was for me. She assured me that it was. I understood the why at the end. It was getting there that had me fuming mad, and a bit on edge. I loved getting Rowan’s back story- that was yeah…. I loved it.

Ultimately, this book comes down to choices. How the decisions we make have a rippling effect on those we love and those we hate. Can Kalin, Rowan and Marcus make the right decisions? Kalin comes into her own in this one, realizing what had to be done. She was the right mixed of young adult with an old soul.

If you want a book that will have your heart racing and your emotions on alert, pick this one up. Start with the first book in the series though.

My Rating 4 out of 5 stars

Review: Mixed Signals

Author Diane Barnes
Format e-ARC
Print Length 320 pages
Publisher Lyrical Shine
Published September 27, 2016

Getting dumped is never easy, but there’s a special bonus sting if your ex-fiancé is a producer for a popular morning radio show. Jillian Atwood’s breakup with Nico has become the hosts’ number-one topic. They’re even running a competition to find him a new girlfriend. The entire population of Boston, it seems, is tuning in with an opinion about who Nico should date next—and what Jillian should do to get over him.

Jillian’s co-worker, Ben, has his own ideas on that score. He hates seeing Jill depressed over a guy as unworthy as her ex. While he’s providing a friendly ear, he's also realizing how much more he’d like to offer. And if Jill could just get over the man who broke her heart, she might find the one who’s perfectly equipped to heal it...

My Opinion

Newly engaged Jill is also newly dumped Jill only she doesn’t tell anyone hoping that is was just cold feet. That is until her Nico, the ex-fiancé, went on the radio and told everyone for her. To make matters worse, that radio show is hosting a contest to find Nico a new gal. Oh yeah… the host, Branigan rains down the hate for Jill every chance he gets. It really is harassment, and her ex-fiancé is okay with it.

After six years, and one beautiful diamond ring, Jill has earned the right to sulk. She has also earned to right to be mad, to scream, to pray that the break up isn’t true. That is until Nico goes on the radio and agrees to a contest for picking a new girlfriend, two weeks after he dumped her and moved out. After that I wanted to shake the gal, tell her to snap out of it and move on. I realize that the break-up rule is half the time that you are together to get over the dumper. However, there is a time where the dumping is so bad that you instantly hate the ex. This is one of those times for me. What the heck! Why in the world would she still consider going back to him? I wanted to get it. I really did but mainly I wanted to shake her. It great thing is I was able to be captured by the emotions of the break-up. This book brought on all the feels. I loved- loved -loved Rachel her bestie from childhood. She so does stuff that my bestie Lynsey would have done.

When she finally gets some spunk back into her step, Branigan the host of the radio show gets brutally ugly. I kept wondering why she didn’t get a lawyer and sue his behind. How she does get back at him is pretty funny yet wrong and since she is a nice gal… yeah guilt it is a witch.

For six years, Ben has watch Jill and Nico date, move in together and get engaged. Deeming it a lost cause, he dates around a lot. What he can’t help that he is hot. Plus, he has a rule about no office romances. Then came the break-up and Jill being miserable. He couldn’t help that his old feelings for her popping up again. Yet he knows she isn’t ready for anything more than friendship, being friend-zoned is no fun. I adored Ben, he is the voice of reason in the book. He is there for Jill every step of the way. Plus, he knows her- truly knows her. Any guy who can tell you want you order for lunch at several different restaurants has got to be paying attention. There is this other scene where, just trust me, if you didn’t love him in the beginning- you will fall in love with him then.

Mixed Signals brings with it a mixture of emotions. Laughter, sighs, a bit of anger and some compassion. It balances the emotions of a broken heart, humiliation, and new love like a trapeze artist. Overall, a pretty good contemporary romance with some awesome and evil side characters.

Swoon Thursday (37) Mixed Signals

The fabulous girls over at YA Bound created this super HOT meme. Here's how it works.

From the book you’re currently reading, or one you just finished, tell us what made you SWOON.
What got your heart pounding, your skin tingling, and your stomach fluttering.

Shout it out on Twitter with the hashtag #YABound, post it here in the comments, or grab the adorable button above and share it on your blog! I want to know & so do the gals at YABound.

For a half second I think the old man might realize that I'm on the verge of tears, because his expression softens so that his face doesn't look as wrinkled, and I can almost imagine the young man he once was.

"I knew from the moment I first saw Carol. Asked her to marry me on our second date."

I whisked the sand into the dustpan. "Your second date?"

"Only because I thought it would have been ridiculous to ask her on the first."

I absolutely adore Mr. O'Brien and how much he loved his late wife. How much he tries to look after Jill.

Waiting on Wednesday (37) The Queen of Blood

Hey y'all, thanks so much for stopping by my WoW!

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine which spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

An idealistic young student and a banished warrior become allies in
a battle to save their realm in this first book of a mesmerizing epic fantasy series, filled with political intrigue, violent magic, malevolent spirits, and thrilling adventure

Everything has a spirit: the willow tree with leaves that kiss the pond, the stream that feeds the river, the wind that exhales fresh snow . . .

But the spirits that reside within this land want to rid it of all humans. One woman stands between these malevolent spirits and the end of humankind: the queen. She alone has the magical power to prevent the spirits from destroying every man, woman, and child. But queens are still just human, and no matter how strong or good, the threat of danger always looms.

With the position so precarious, young women are chosen to train as heirs. Daleina, a seemingly quiet academy student, is under no illusions as to her claim to the throne, but simply wants to right the wrongs that have befallen the land. Ven, a disgraced champion, has spent his exile secretly fighting against the growing number of spirit attacks. Joining forces, these daring partners embark on a treacherous quest to find the source of the spirits’ restlessness—a journey that will test their courage and trust, and force them to stand against both enemies and friends to save their land . . . before it’s bathed in blood.

Why I am Waiting?

I like the idea of this one and hope that it will be as good as it sounds.

Review: Consume

Author Melissa Darnell
Format e-ARC
Print Length 384 pages
Publisher August 27, 2013
Published Harlequin Teen
Tristan Coleman has survived the change from Clann magic user to vampire, much to Savannah Colbert's joy—and despair. By changing the Clann's golden boy and newly elected leader, even to save him from death, she has unleashed a fury of hatred and fear that they cannot escape.

As the Clann and the vampire council go to war, Tristan and Sav face a new threat—a fracturing of the all-consuming bond they share. To fight for peace, they must forge a new trust and risk everything to take down their deadliest enemy, even as they must run for their lives. Soon they will learn that some bonds are stronger than love—and some battles cannot be won without sacrifice.

My Opinion

Thank you to Harlequin and Netgalley for allowing me to review this novel. This in no way influenced my review.

**Spoilers from the previous two books.***

I love the Clann series- Tristan, Savannah, Anne- they all hold a special

place in my reading corner. I went into book three expecting the same feisty writing that made my heart beat both with adrenaline and with swoony feels. It is hard to write a review over a book that falls short of meeting your expectations.

Consume starts off right where Covet leaves off. Tristan is a newly turned vampire and is in hiding until he gets his memories back. While the other two books focused more on Savannah I felt that Consume had a lot to do with Tristan. He is facing a lot- being turned into a vamp, kicked out of a Coven that he was supposed to be a leader of, being on the run, revenge and protecting Savannah. While he does come into his own, it is difficult to witness how he deals with some things. He of course comes off as a hero in the end, his armor just a little less shiny. Having being the one to change Tristan, it is difficult for Savannah to shield her thoughts from him. He has little ability to shield his from her. You can image how this is going to lead to a lot of bickering between the two, to the point where their relationship is altered. I can only imagine how horrible this would be- your significant other knowing your every thought. I just figure with a war going on they could move past the high school stuff.

Savannah’s parents are on the run with her and Tristan. Her divorced parents- so it stands to reason that there would be some disagreements. Ummm… hello your daughter and her boyfriend are being framed for murder. Her daddy was a bit to indulgent for my taste when it came to dealing with her momma. Seriously, someone needed to have a “come to Jesus” talk to the woman. She most definitely acted more like a teenager than a parent. Someone like Savannah’s Nanna.

I enjoyed the scenes of them at school, just like the other two books. This one had very few school scenes though. The pacing of off- for some reason this one felt like it was going at a crawl, with spurts of energy here and there. I think the pacing and lack of action is what got to me the most. The opposite of the first two books. I liked the ending, well to be honest I like the part that concerned Emily. The ending that concerned Savannah’s mom I could have done without. Just not a fan. Tristian’s sister surprised me a couple of times- really didn’t expect so much maturity out of her.

Overall, the series is great. This book as a series ender- not so much. There was no wow moment. It lacked that charm and pizzazz the other two books had.

My Rating 3 out of 5 stars

Review: The Witchling Seer

Author B. Kristin McMichael
Format e-book
Print Length 200 pages
Publisher Lexia Press, LLC
Published August 30, 2016

Cassie wasn’t happy when she got her first mate. Then she got a second mate. She’d give anything to have no mates; that is until she meets someone who once had the same fate as her. Instead of running from it, Cassie is told to embrace it and make her own choices. That is exactly what she plans to do, but how can she make choices when she never seems to have all the details? Something more is happening, and this time, the wendigo are not part of it. The peace Cassie brought between the two clans is very thin. She must work quickly to find a solution, but there always seem to be more questions than answers.

My Opinion

The Witchling Seer picks up right where The Wendigo Witchling left off. Cassie has two mates and there is a fragile peace between the Witches and the Wendigo. Jared and Nate are trying hard not to fight, as that would upset Cassie. Whitney’s entire family is missing. The girls decided to go back to the seer from the first book to see if she could help Cassie with whatever is blocking her sight. Jared goes with them as Nate is forced to stay behind to help with the peace.

The seer was more cryptic this time than last, which was hard to do. However, she did help Cassie with her block which was interesting. Cassie also finds out what kind of night human her daddy was. Nate is able to catch up with them, and it was interesting to see him interact with all of the other royal nighthumans. Cassie also got to meet with Arianna, it was nice to see her, Andrew and Devin again.

After visiting the seer, the book picks up speed with Nate becoming Alpha. As Alpha, Nate has an added maturity. He becomes more of a strategist and continues to protect Cassie. This is a side of him that she hadn’t seen before. Cassie is still struggling with two mates- they both make it very hard not to fall for them. The ending is pretty shocking. Truly wasn’t expecting what occurred.

This book is about Cassie’s journey into the nighthuman world. A lot of it focused on Whitney, hopefully setting up for her story next. With all that has happened to her in this book, the girl definitely has a story to tell.

Overall, an entertaining series. Book two was a bit on the annoying side, however this one makes up for that.

My Rating 3 out of 5 stars

Book Trailer Saturday (37) Nevernight

Some people believe you can fall in love at first sight. When it comes to books I believe those people. Book trailers are an excellent way to fall in love at first sight. I hope to feature a book trailer here every Saturday to help you fall in love at first sight.

This one is a Fan Made Book Trailer!!!

The first in a new fantasy series from the New York Times bestselling author.

In a land where three suns almost never set, a fledgling killer joins a school of assassins, seeking vengeance against the powers who destroyed her family.

Daughter of an executed traitor, Mia Corvere is barely able to escape her father’s failed rebellion with her life. Alone and friendless, she hides in a city built from the bones of a dead god, hunted by the Senate and her father’s former comrades. But her gift for speaking with the shadows leads her to the door of a retired killer, and a future she never imagined.

Now, Mia is apprenticed to the deadliest flock of assassins in the entire Republic—the Red Church. If she bests her fellow students in contests of steel, poison and the subtle arts, she’ll be inducted among the Blades of the Lady of Blessed Murder, and one step closer to the vengeance she desires. But a killer is loose within the Church’s halls, the bloody secrets of Mia’s past return to haunt her, and a plot to bring down the entire congregation is unfolding in the shadows she so loves.

Will she even survive to initiation, let alone have her revenge?

Review: An Indecent Proposal

Author Katee Robert
Format e-ARC
Print Length 352 pages
Publisher Forever
Published August 30, 2016

Greed. Ambition. Violence. Those are the "values" Olivia Rashidi learned from her Russian mob family-and the values she must leave behind for the sake of her daughter. When she meets Cillian O'Malley, she recognizes the red flag of his family name . . . yet she still can't stop herself from seeing the smoldering, tortured man. To save her family, Olivia sets out to discover Cillian's own secrets, but the real revelation is how fast-and how hard-she's falling for him.

Plagued by a violent past, Cillian is more vulnerable than anyone realizes. Anyone except Olivia, whose beauty, compassion, and pride have him at "hello," even if she's more inclined to say good-bye to an O'Malley. While his proposal of sex with no strings seems simple, what he feels for her isn't, especially after he learns that she belongs to a rival crime family. Cillian knows that there is no escape from the life, but Olivia may be worth trying-and dying-for . . .

My Opinion

Cillian is the middle child in the O’Malley family. He has recently been given control of the O’Malley finances. Surprising given what a playboy he is. A few months ago, his brother Devin was killed. Cillian blames himself, and is having problems moving on. He hasn’t told anyone else in his family as they have had drama of their own. So much so that they haven’t noticed the changes in Cillian and still view him as irresponsible.

Olivia is a bartender at a joint in O’Malley territory, even though she has ties to the Romanov’s from New York. We were introduced to them in the last book. Olivia denies her ties, and is just trying to make a happy home for her daughter. Her older half-brother wants her back though, to make good on a death bed promise he made to his father. This puts Olivia and her daughter in danger.

Cillian is comes across as tough and domineering. For the most part he is unless it comes to Olivia. At first he was just confused by her animosity for him, then intrigued by the action between them. He knows she is hiding something, which makes her skittish around him. She runs hot and cold- this just makes him want her more. You wouldn’t expect it but he is extremely sensitive to her needs and her feelings. When she was in trouble he dropped everything at a seconds notice to protect her. This caused his hotness gauge to jump through the roof.

An Indecent Proposal is a sizzling novel that brings all the feels. Cillian’s concern for Olivia will warm you to your toes. Half the time their interactions with each other will make you laugh out loud, and the other half will have you blushing. This is the third book in the series, I reading them in order. I cannot wait to find out about Sloan’s love especially with what happens at the end. No cliffhanger here, just foreshadowing by a master writer.

My Rating 4 out of 5 stars

She had his number- if she'd found it in her heart to forgive him, she'd call.

She hadn't called.

But not once since he'd left had he stopped hoping she would. Like a lovesick little boy he'd slept with his phone close to his bed. Anytime his phone had been out of hearing range, even for a few seconds, he came back, holding his breath checking for missed messages.

Waiting on Wednesday (36) The Swan Riders

Hey y'all, thanks so much for stopping by my WoW!

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine which spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Greta Stuart had always known her future: die young. She was her
country's crown princess, and also its hostage, destined to be the first casualty in an inevitable war. But when the war came it broke all the rules, and Greta forged a different path.

She is no longer princess. No longer hostage. No longer human. Greta Stuart has become an AI.

If she can survive the transition, Greta will earn a place alongside Talis, the AI who rules the world. Talis is a big believer in peace through superior firepower. But some problems are too personal to obliterate from orbit, and for those there are the Swan Riders: a small band of humans who serve the AIs as part army, part cult.

Now two of the Swan Riders are escorting Talis and Greta across post-apocalyptic Saskatchewan. But Greta’s fate has stirred her nation into open rebellion, and the dry grassland may hide insurgents who want to rescue her – or see her killed. Including Elian, the boy she saved—the boy who wants to change the world, with a knife if necessary. Even the infinitely loyal Swan Riders may not be everything they seem.

Greta’s fate—and the fate of her world—are balanced on the edge of a knife in this smart, sly, electrifying adventure.

Why I am Waiting?

How is Greta going to get out of this one? Nation in rebellion? Hidden agendas?

"I know we didn't do this the right way. I never took you on a date. I never tried to win you over. I was a complete jerk about all of it. I just assumed you'd be happy to be my mate like everyone else in the school. I didn't think about it. I've always known that you are different. You're not like everyone else, and I shouldn't have treated you that way. I'm sorry."
