Jude took a step closer, towering over her, his shoulders so broad, they filled the doorway. "Are you done?"

Just like that, she had a whole lot more to say. "Actually-"

"That was a rhetorical question, sunshine." His big hand cupped the back of her neck, his thumb tracing over her jaw and up to drag against her bottom lip.

DOMINO: A girl with blue hair and a demon in her mind.

CAIN: A stone giant on the brink of exploding.

MADAM KARINA: A woman who demands obedience.

WILSON: The one who will destroy them all.

When Madam Karina discovers Domino in an alleyway, she offers her a position inside her home for entertainers in secluded West Texas. Left with few alternatives and an agenda of her own, Domino accepts. It isn’t long before she is fighting her way up the ranks to gain the madam’s approval. But after suffering weeks of bullying and unearthing the madam’s secrets, Domino decides to leave. It’ll be harder than she thinks, though, because the madam doesn’t like to lose inventory. But then, Madam Karina doesn’t know about the person living inside Domino’s mind.

Madam Karina doesn’t know about Wilson.

Why am I waiting?

Review: The Bad Luck Bride

Author Janna MacGregor
Format e-ARC
Print Length 368 pages

Published May 2, 2017

IS MARRIAGE A BLESSING OR A CURSE?

A man of honor, Alexander Hallworth, Marquess of Pembrooke, will not rest until he exacts revenge on the man who destroyed his family. Just one more piece must fall into place for him to succeed he needs to convince his enemy s fiancee, the tragically beautiful Lady Claire Cavensham, to marry him instead.

Lady Claire s curse has always left her one misstep away from social ruin her past three engagements have gone awry, and now her fourth is headed in the same direction. . .until Alex, a man she barely even knows, shocks the ton and Claire by announcing their engagement. What begins as a sham turns into something deeper, and more passionate, than either Claire or Alex could have imagined. But when their secrets are revealed, will the truth behind their union scandalize them both or is their love strong enough to break the curse and lead them toward their happily ever after?

My Opinion

Lady Claire has been engaged to be married a lot, yet never once made it to the actual wedding. This is enough to ruin a gal’s reputation. Marquess of Pembrooke, Alex, wants revenge on his oldest and dearest friend so much so that he would even go as far as stealing his fiancĂ© and making her his wife. If they make it to the altar that is. Many believe that Lady Claire is cursed.

Lady Claire is lonely and desperately wants a family. She is beginning to belive the gossip rags that state she is cursed. How else do you find yourself engaged to be married 4 times and still not make it to the altar? It doesn’t help that a tragedy as a child has left some internal scars. She does charity work and fins ways to fill the void, yet she really wants children of her own.

Alex is stupid. His revenge against his bestie is due to a misunderstanding and he doesn’t listen to his other bestie about how stupid he is being. He could have the perfect marriage if only he would communicate with his wife.

The Bad Luck Bride draws you in to a land of yesteryears, where balls, the ton, and matters rule. It captures and holds your attention for all 368 pages. Making it a great escape from ordinary everyday life.

My Rating 4 out of 5 stars

Review: The Girlfriend Request

Author Jodi Andreeski
Format e-book
Print Length 216 pages
Publisher Entangled: Crush
Published Jan. 11, 2016

Updating best friend to girlfriend is more than a change of status…

Emma has been best friends with Eli since she moved to his neighborhood ten years ago. Tired of being cast in the role of the girl next door, Emma creates a fake Facebook profile in the hopes of starting an online friendship with Eli, which would hopefully lead to more. Like...way more. From friend request to In a Relationship--it all seemed so completely logical when she'd planned it.

Eli can't figure out what Emma is up to. He’s pretty sure she's the one behind the Facebook profile, but then again, why would she do something so drastic instead of just admitting she wants to be more than friends? And who the heck is this new guy he saw her with? Eli starts to think that just maybe...he missed his chance with the girl next door.

Two best friends, one outlandish ruse. Their status is about to become way more than It’s Complicated…

My Opinion

What a fun book about high school antics and how to get a guy to notice you!

When Emma moved to town as a young girl, Eli became her first friend. Her best friend, really, yet lately she has been having more than friends thoughts about him. Convinced that he will not notice her, she creates a fake Facebook profile to capture his attention. Wat happens then is a series of misunderstandings and hurt feelings that could either break their friendship apart or bring them closer than ever before.

Emma is written so well that it is hard to believe she is only a character in a book. The feelings that she is dealing with are realistic and you can see why she makes the choices she makes. You end up cheering her on even as you are telling her she is being stupid.

Eli is a clueless guy. So clueless that I almost felt bad for him. Then he starts to treat Emma poorly and I got really annoyed with hi so much so that I was almost cheering for the other guy, Jake. Although towards the end I felt like Jake was a creeper. That is how poorly I felt Eli dealt with his feelings.

The Girlfriend Request is an adorable read. Easily finished in one afternoon, it transports you back to high school where love always equaled drama. If you love/like love triangles this is the book for you.

My Rating 3 out of 5 stars

Review: I Dared the Duke

Author Anna Bennett
Format e-ARC
Print Length 320 pages
Publisher St. Martin’s
Published April 4, 2017

DARE TO FALL IN LOVE

Alexander Savage, the Duke of Blackshire, is known throughout the ton for three things: the burn scars on his neck, his ornery disposition, and the trail of broken hearts behind him. None of which would concern Miss Elizabeth Lacey in the least—if she weren’t living under his roof. As his grandmother’s companion, Beth is all too concerned with the moody and compelling duke. Incensed by his plans to banish the sweet dowager duchess to the country, Beth refuses to do his bidding. If Alex wants her help, he’s going to have to take her dare…and grant her three wishes.

Alex adores his grandmother, which is precisely why she must leave. A string of unfortunate incidents has him worried for the safety of everyone around him—including the dowager’s loyal and lovely companion, Beth. But the notorious wallflower isn’t as meek as she appears, and as their battle of wills heats up, so does Alex’s desire. He’s dangerously close to falling in love with her…and revealing secrets he’d rather keep hidden. How can he convince her that his darkest days are behind him—and that, for the first time in forever, his heart is true?

My Opinion

Elizabeth and her sisters were unfortunately described as the Wilted Wallflowers by a member of the ton. The nickname stuck and Beth quite frankly was tired of being a wallflower. So she agrees to a new title, one of a lady’s companion.

Beth Lacey is the newly appointed lady’s companion to the Dowager Duchess of Blackshire. She adores the Duchess and loves her new position. So when the Duke arrives and demands she leave she says no. How dare he? Only the duke has good reasons. Someone is trying to hill him and his grandma is the only person he cares about. He needs her to retire to the country. To get her to do that he will need her stubborn lady’s companion on his side.

Beth thinks that the duke is horrible and a player (rake for this time period). She comes up with a scheme to force him to spend time with his grandmother- only then will she help. She has no clue his actual reasons and he is not inclined to tell her them. It is because of her misconceptions of him that she is able to stand up to him. Even though she is a wallflower, she apparently listens to the gossip as much as the most popular lady in the ton.

Alex is a sweet duke. He has an unwarranted reputation which he uses to his advantage. He love and admiration for his grandmother is adorable. Why anyone wants to kill him is beyond me.

I Dared the Duke is a cute historical romance. There was no guessing who done it, there was no excitement of the near death moments, overall an enjoyable read just missing pizazz.

Book Trailer Saturday (15) The End of Oz

Ding dong—Dorothy is dead.
I watched as the Emerald Palace crumbled to the ground, burying Dorothy, the Girl Who Rode the Cyclone, under the rubble. And now that the rightful ruler, Ozma, has been restored to the throne…

Oz is finally free.

My name is Amy Gumm. You might remember me as the other girl from Kansas. When a tornado whisked me away to the magical land of Oz, I was given a mission: Dorothy must die.

But it turns out girls from Kansas are harder to kill than we look.

Now the Road of Yellow Brick is leading me away from Oz to the dark world of Ev, where I have a new, powerful enemy to deal with: the Nome King. And—surprise—he has a gingham-clad bride.

With my magical shoes and a shrinking group of allies, I have one final chance to fulfill my mission, and save not only what’s left of Oz, but Kansas, too. As the line between Good and Wicked blurs even further, I have to find a way to get rid of Dorothy once and for all—without turning into a monster myself.

Dorothy once said there’s no place like home. Can I stop her from destroying mine?

Review: Concealed

Author
Kate SeRine
Format e- ARC
Print Length 368 pages
Publisher Kensington
Published March 28, 2017

As the only female initiate of the elite undercover society, the Dark Alliance, former FBI agent Madeleine Blake has a lot to prove—especially to her former lover, Alliance operative Jack Grayson. Ever since joining Jack’s team, Maddie’s been keeping her distance, trying not to relive every moment they shared during their brief but passionate affair. Yet when a mission ends in tragedy, Maddie’s ready to walk away from the Alliance—and Jack—forever. That is, until Jack’s cover is blown, putting his life in danger and making it impossible for Maddie to deny her true feelings…

Before he met Maddie, Jack Grayson thought happiness was impossible for a man like him. After all, he has a price on his head that requires him to live in the shadows, concealed from everyone and everything he cares about. But now that they’re on the run for their lives and Jack has Maddie in his arms again, he realizes their love is the only thing in his life that’s real. And this time, there’s no way in hell he’s letting it slip away…

My Opinion

Concealed is the second book in the Dark Alliance series. We were introduced to Maddie and Jack in the first book, Alliance. The underlying chemistry between the two is hinted at in the first book, so I was very excited to see that the second book was about them. Kate SeRine does not disappoint. The chemistry is scalding, the action fast and furious, and the romance is a thing of legends.

Maddie Blake has resigned from the FBI and is now a member of the Dark Alliance. Will, her commanding officer, has placed her on Jack’s team. This normally would not be a problem only…Jack is her ex. The tension between these two is enough to heat up Hades. Will they chance love again or will Jack’s past finally catch up to him?

Maddie is one tough lady. Yes, lady- sure she can hang with the boys but at the end of the day this gal is classy. Classy with a gun, who is not afraid to use it. She is also fearless and a bit on the reckless side if a loved one is in danger. She tries very hard to keep her relationship on the ice. Being hurt in the past by him has taught her a thing or two.

Jack is all male. He wants to protect Maddie more form his past than anything else. Yet, he knows that her not knowing is what puts her in even greater danger than anything else. He knows he has a lot to atone for and he is relentless in his pursuit of Maddie’s forgiveness as well as her heart.

Concealed may be my favorite Kate SeRine book to date. Yes, I’ve read them all (she is a fabulous writer). There is something about this one. It doesn’t feel like the second book in the series at all. If you like suspense, action and romance this is the book for you.

My Rating 5 out of 5 stars

Review: Garden of Thorns

Author Amber Mitchell
Format e-ARC
Print Length 370 pages
Publisher Entangled Teen
Published March 6, 2017

After seven grueling years of captivity in the Garden—a burlesque troupe of slave girls—sixteen-year-old Rose finds an opportunity to escape during a performance for the emperor. But the hostage she randomly chose from the crowd to aid her isn’t one of the emperor’s men—not anymore. He’s the former heir to the throne, who is now leading a rebellion against it.

Rayce is a wanted man and dangerously charismatic, the worst person for Rose to get involved with, no matter what his smile promises. But he assumes Rose’s attempt to take him hostage is part of a plot to crush the rebellion, so he takes her as his hostage. Now Rose must prove where her loyalties lie, and she offers Rayce a deal—if he helps her rescue the other girls, she’ll tell him all the Garden’s secrets.

Except the one secret she’s kept for seven years that she’ll take to her grave if she must.

My Opinion

The Garden is almost like a traveling circles, with no animals. Humans perform, and if they do badly the Wilted are the ones who are punished. Every Garden has a star flower, and Rose happens to be that flower. Fern is the Wilted that belongs with Rose and one day a mistake was deadly. Rose knew then that she would have to escape. Only she escapes with the one man that the emperor dreads and the townsfolk gossip about.

Rose has a secret that could change the world, yet due to circumstances beyond her control she became a slave in the Garden. She was content in the Garden with Fern but once Fern was done she realized she had to help the other girls escape as well. She was strong-willed, and loyal to a fault. A planner she was not, as she often tried to do things by the seat of her pants. This could get quiet annoying.

Rayce has a secret too, one that could also change the world. If only he could find a way around the emperor. A lot of people depend upon him, and he takes this responsibility to heart. If one of his people gets hurt, he is right there with them. He hates what he has to do, and the difficult decisions he has to make. He does them time and time again. His sense of purpose and responsibility is a thing of beauty.

The chemistry between these two is thick. There were times where I wanted to shake both of them and give them a Gibbs slap on the head. I refrained but only barely. They both feel the connection but fight it tooth and nail due to their responsibilities. While this is noble at times, I just wanted them to kiss.

Garden of Thorns is a good start to an interesting series. It combines fantasy with a bit of mystery and comes out winning in all of these areas. It is extremely fast-paced and could leave you feeling as if you got whip lash from all the back and forth in the romance department.

My Rating 4 out of 5 stars

Lord Carlston was scanning the other end of the room, forehead furrowed in concentration. This way, she called silently. I am here. As if he heard her, he turned, his expression warming into gladness. Her own smile locked into his glze, the silent conversation betweem them red in the barest lift of a brow, flicer of an eyelid, the slow curve of a lip.

You are here. She did not try to hide her relief.
